The Light
Finding Our Way

On our journey through life, we face many trials and tribulations that
seem overpowering, often forcing us to walk in darkness. Attempting to
follow our heart, seeking to walk in the Light, sometimes to no avail, we
continue to fall. This path of darkness seems much easier because we
can hide in its nothingness, feeling confident that no one can see us ,
and therefore we can remain unaccountable for what we say or do.
Sooner or later the darkness will over power us, drawing us deeper and
deeper into it bowels, a place where we no longer seem to care about
anything or anyone, a place without feelings or hope.

Gradually we find ourselves doing things that are not of our own
nature, as the darkness overpowers our very existence. Some signs
such as acting peculiar, talking differently , expressing greed, hate and
even lusting after the possessions of others become evident, just to name
a few.

Upon reaching this point, and realizing we can no longer tolerate
our own self, we attempt to seek some sort of relief. Hopefully we can
see the light in the distance but the question is, can we reach it? Are we
strong enough to change or is this where we belong , in a place where
there is nothing to decide or no one care for? Perhaps we have the
desire but neither the strength nor the knowledge to escape.

In our quest to find relief, searching all the places that would
seem to hold the answers , we find ourselves falling short of our
expectations. We become discouraged by our lack of fulfillment, feeling
that we have exhausted all our avenues. It is usually at that point we
bow our head and close our eyes in defeat, surrendering ourselfs totally
to the situation. As a last resort we humbly turn to God for the answers.
We expect Him to give us this great revelation in a brief moment of time
and all will be resolved immediately, but unfortunately God doesn’t
work that way.

With great sadness we open our eyes , looking around for any
changes that may have occured, but see none. What does catch our
attention is a plant growing from behind closed blinds. Although it is
shaded from the Sun it seems to be flourishing in its envirorment. It is
obvious that it is seeking the light and its warmth by maneuvering its
way around the obstacle before it, by forcing its way toward the light. It
is apparent that it cannot exist without the light, which provides the
very source of its strength, nourishment, warmth and all that is
necessary for its existence. Is this God’s way of revealing the answers
to our problems through the plant?

Although we believe it is us who seek after the Light, it is the Light
that is seeking us. It reaches out, drawing us closer and closer
giving us the strength and nourishment that is needed to overcome the
darkness, allowing us to reach the light.

Perhaps it was also part of God’s Simple Plan to dividing the day
into two parts to help us understand the difference between light and
darkness. During the day we are active and flourish in the Light, and at
night we sleep allowing the darkness to pass quickly. This is God’s
suttle way of reminding us that Jesus is the Light of the world and
though him all things are possible.

Sleep well my friend wherever you may be
