SIMPLICITY OF LIFE
As we walk though life we tend to feel unique in many ways, looking at ourselves as the most complicated organisms in life. We feel that we are the strongest, most durable and resilient of all God's creations. What we fail to notice are the things around us, the things God has placed there for us to learn from. These are all part of God's simple plan.
I realized as a child, I was as simple as a weed that grows wild in the fields, having shallow roots and being carefree, and that if pulled out by the roots I would grow back stronger and more determined to survive than before. I was resilient and capable of surviving all life had to throw at me, carefree with no fears or worries of the environment around me and I was content with merely existing.
As I matured, I grew into a bush with deeper roots, still carefree. I was beginning to bear fruit, endure my surroundings, and to enjoy the essence of life and all it had to offer. As with all things in life, I flourished and began to branch out into the world, seeking more space to spread my roots.
At that point in life I had become as a willow tree, capable of growing almost anywhere. My roots were many, reaching out in all directions, some deep and others running close to the surface. I began to absorb all that was around me, growing taller and stronger but flexible enough to sway in the breezes and high winds of life. I developed and formed my own character, and I was no longer able to be pushed around so easily. I was flexible enough to endeavor in the adversities before me. Slowly becoming rooted in the ways of life I found myself making yet another transition and, at that point, I became as the mighty oak, strong, well rooted and firm in my ways, rarely bending or flexing in the turbulent winds of life. I grew taller and became a fine specimen. I felt indestructible, realizing that many had grown to depend on me for my strength.
But as all things in life we become affected by the things around us. Our roots become weaker, and our branches bear less and less fruit as each year passes. Our strength dwindles as we grow older, and we feel ourselves begin wo sway in the winds. We face what is common to all - the time to recycle. We look down at our roots, only to see young weeds growing, bushes flourishing, and willow trees sprouting. It is time to make way for the new.
God's plan is so simple and obvious. All we have to do is look around us. We may think life is complex when it is, in reality, so simple. We must just open our eyes so that our minds can see and our hearts can experience and enjoy the simplicity of life.
