Grand Parenting
A Touch of Immortality

Grandparenting

Along lives journey we reach many new and exciting plateaus,
from the time we are born till the day we draw our last breathe. We go
from being a youth, to a young adulthood, then on to marriage,
parenthood and so on and so forth as we mature in the essence of life.
At maturity, if we feel our life is full and complete we become
complacent in our ways, settling in and enjoying all life has to offer.
Even though every plateau in life is an experience, the greatest plateaus
we can ever reach in our life is that of a Grand Parent.

While raising our own children, we tend to miss or overlook some
of the greatest moments of their youth. Although we are thinking only of
their welfare we become so obsessed with their surroundings that we
miss parts of the growing up process. We watch them grow and develop
but we overlook some of the finer moments of their youth. The main
reason for this is we are so overprotective wanting them to have the
perfect life we didn't have.

As youth slowly escapes us and we matured into adulthood where our youth is
brought back to us in a totally different but most effective way,
through our grandchildren. What we failed to realize is that God has
given us a second chance to refresh our minds and see some of the
things we missed as parents. We not only get to instill our values into
our grandchildren but we get to have a second child hood of our own.
This beautiful gift is called grandparenting

What happens to us is that our youth is rejuvenated through our
grandchildren and we are more understanding and at ease because we
are not the parents, so therefore we can enjoy them more by spoiling them.
We also find ourselves not being as critical with them as we were with our
own because, theoretically they belong to someone else. We can overlook the
minor disciplining that plagued us, while raising our own children
allowing us to spoil and love them in a way only a grandparent can
do.

We look back and remember all the times we yelled at our own
parents when they spoiled our children and finds ourselves doing the
exact same thing to ours grandchildren. Life has a way of revealing it
secrets to us and gives us a chance to right the thing we felt were wrong.
We not only learn from our mistakes but actually have a chance to
relive them and change them. This makes us a better parent and an
understanding grandparent.

Perhaps it is Gods way of helping us to cope with life's treacheries
by giving us a chance to renew our own spirit. The thing that makes it
all worth while is the reality that our grandchildren carry a part of us
inside of them. Perhaps it may be somewhat deluded but it is still a part
of us in there makeup and by being a part of their life it allows us to
reach a form of immortality.
