A Touch of Heaven
On our daily walk through life we often meet people that seem to make a lasting impression on our lives. Whether the impression is good or bad, short or long depends on the situation and the persons involved. Sometimes their mere presents may makes us feel special causing us to sit up and take notice of all that is around us. Today was one of those days.
When I awoke this morning a feeling came over me like this day would be special. I wasnt able to put my finger on the feeling but knew something special was about to happen. While going about my normal routine I preceded to the local restaurant for breakfast. A place I often frequented with my friends. A strange feeling that something in my life was about to change, was haunting me but I continued on with my normal routine.
As we sat down at our usual table a feeling came over me that today would be like no other day and it turned out that I was right. Looking across the room I made eye contact with a woman who had the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. Sitting at the table with her were two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. The children seemed to be preoccupied playing with their video games.
Our eyes locked together as though we had known each other for a life time. The way she looked at me was precious and her eyes seemed to glitter with excitement. Her compassion for life was evident in her eyes. Her lips began to move and soft gentle words came from her mouth as she began to speak to me. Her British accent captured my attention and I immediately knew there was something special about her. She may not have been unaware of it, but the moment she caught my attention with her smile, she also captured my heart.
She stood up and walked toward our table and introduced herself. She had ora about her that reminded me of a rare tropical flower I once saw. I could not recall the name of the flower because it was foreign to me but its beauty was imbedded in my mind. Her smile was radiant and her heart seemed pure and full of life. Her eyes were soft and gentle to look at. She spoke with such distinction and her voice was that of an angel singing an evangelical hymn. The mere sound of it seems to sooth the savage beast within me. In that brief moment that we shared in the restaurant I could feel her mere presents change me.
We spent the next few days talking and learning more of each others life styles. We grew closer by sharing what was on our minds and in our hearts. In many cases we discovered we had similar likes and dislikes which made it even easier to converse. Our last evening together was spent looking at the river and sharing a bottle of wine. The time passed so quickly that we found ourselves staring at the moonlight. It became late as she reminded me she was leaving early in the morning. As she walked away tears came to my eyes. I had met someone that was everything I had ever wanted in a woman and she was walking out of my life.
Was she to be just a friend or could there have been more? Was she sent by God in answer to my prayers? Her presents had given me the companionship and peace of mind that I yearned for. This type peace of mind enlightens our heart, by giving us everlasting happiness. This type of gift could only come from above.
I may never know the true reason she was in my life, because I allowed her to disappear without telling her how I felt. Too often by the time we recognize the significant of a special person in our lives, they are gone. Perhaps this was the way it was meant to be. Maybe we came together for a short time to fill an emptiness that we both felt in our hearts. Now that it was fulfilled it may be time for us to move on.
I do know on thing for sure, I will never forget her and my life will never be the same now that she has been in it . Today a tear of happiness came to my eyes as I thought about her gift to me. I am a better person for having had her in my life even thought it was for such a short period of time.
If we never figure out the reason we met we can always be thankful for the special friendship that we forged.
Sleep well my friend wherever you may be.
