Aircraft Accident Alert Codes:

Condition 1- Major Accident or fire or actual emergency on the airport
Condition 2- Aircraft accident or fire off the airport
Condition 3- Minor accident or fire
Condition 4- Potential aircraft emergency
Condition 5- Bomb threat
Condition 6- Hijack ( on ground)
Condition 7- Skyjack (in air)
3-2- One emergency garage responding (JFK, minor problem)
3-3- Aircraft alert ( JFK & EWR)
3-4- Aircraft crash ( JFK & EWR)
4-3- Aircraft alert (LGA)
4-4- Aircraft crash (LGA, Airport closed)
The Port Authority of NY&NJ provides fire protection for the airports. This is the roster of all the equipment:

Newark International Airport

2- 1989 E-One Rapid Intervention Vehicle

4- 1988 T-2500/F-29 Oshkosh Crash Fire Rescue Vehicles with 2,500 gal. of water and 410 gal. of ARFF Foam. 2000 GPM pump.

1 1992 GMC- Linear Dynamics 350gpm pumper. 400 gal of water, and 50 gal. of foam.- 10,000 lb. winch, generator, hydralic rescue tools.

1 1991 Ford Mobile Stair Truck- Has a fire hose at the top of the stairs, can fight fires if nessesary.

Monorail Rescue Truck- GMC Topkick Mini-pumper with 65 foot ladder device.

1- 1992 Grumman Moblie Command post

When a Condition 4 is called, Fire Deptartments from Newark and Elizabeth respond immediately. If there is a major emergency or a crash, and more help is needed, the Port Authority can summon departments as far away as 20 miles.

John F. Kennedy International Airport

3- 1989 T-2500/F-29 Oshkosh CRF Units

1- Heavy Rescue- Carries rescues equipment, and Police Swat equipment

2- BLS ambulances

The Port Authority Training Center at JFK also has 1 RIV, and one F-29 that can be made available in any situation

LaGuardia Airport

RED ALERT- When the # of engines available is 10 or less- Almost never used. Instead, mutual aid is called into the city. Mutual Aid is only called when the city has a 4th alarm or above, or mulitple 2 alarm fires in the city.

Interesting Facts:

One Squirt Co. runs as E 16, since E 28 is out of service
All Pumpers, Trucks, and Rescue 1 are E-One
Truck 1 is a 1997 E-One 95' Tower Ladder, the only one in the city
Haz Mat 1 is a Saulsbury/Spartan Heavy Rescue type vehicle
All units are painted White over Lime Yellow, with a Red Stripe on the Cab.
All New Units are White with a Blue stripe.
There is one Fireboat, just delieverd, a 46 Ft. boat, rated at 4000GPM
Newark FD responds to Newark Airport on all Condition 4's. The response to the airport consists of 4 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue, 1 deputy, and 1 battalion.
Some units have Thermal Imaging Cameras
When Mutual Aid is needed, the cities called are Hillside, Union, Elizabeth, Irvington, Belleville, and East Orange.
