Regarding the Forest Fire Freqs., you won't hear much during the winter months. Our active seasons are Spring and Fall, however...if the Winter or Summer months are unusually dry, you will hear activity. The fixed stations all sign on in the morning and sign off in the afternoon. This includes firetowers (when needed) and Division offices. Mobile units, specifically fire attack units, are designated with the letter A and a number. e.g. A-5,
A-2, A-35 etc.
Firetowers in North Jersey are Ramapo (Oakland), Greystone
(Union Hill), Milton (Milton), Culvers (Culvers Lake), Bearfort
(West Milford), Budd Lake (Budd Lake) and Catfish (Blairstown area) You may also hear Sterling Tower on our frequencies, located just across the border in Sterling Forest, NY.
Aeroflex airbase operates out of Andover Airport. Drop planes are designated alpha 1, alpha 2 and choppers are delta units. |
