Numbers to Know
There are 88 keys on a regular piano.
There are 7 letters in the musical alphabet.
A staff has 5 lines and 4 spaces.
Fingers are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 starting with the thumb as No.1 and ending with the little finger as No.5.
In 3/4 time, the first note gets the accent.

A SHARP raises the note a half step. Play the next key to the right.
A FLAT lowers the note a half step. Play the next key to the left.
A NATURAL cancels a previous sharp or flat.

Musical Terms
If a curved line connects two notes of the same pitch, it is called a TIE and the notes are spoken of as TIED NOTES
When a curved line is placed over or under notes of different pitches, it is called a SLUR. This tells us to play the notes LEGATO; i.e. with no rest between the notes.
When a dot is placed over or under a note, it tells us to separate that note from the one which comes next. This is the opposite of LEGATO. It is called STACCATO.
