Direct Projects

1. Microcredit Management Workshop for Employment Generation in Uttarakhand. The purpose of this workshop is to sensitize and strengthen 30 NGOs working in Uttarakhand region of Himalayan Hills in promoting self-help groups among poor women leading sustainable micro enterprise activities utilizing local resources through microcredit linkage from Small Industries Development Bank of India(SIDBI).

The workshop was organized during November 5-6, 1998 at Almora in collaboration with SIDBI, the sponsoring agency.


2. Soft-toys making skill cum entrepreneurship Development Programme- among 20 economically active women of self help groups promoted by FODRA in Pratap Nagar, Delhi. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development(NABARD) has sponsored this 45 days duration training program in August, 1998.


3. Sensitization and capacity building workshop on "Micro Credit Management for Rural Enterprise Development". The representatives from 20 Non-Governmental Organisations working in Delhi and surrounding state attended the workshop. FODRA has organized during August 20-21, 1997 in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development(NABARD), Delhi Regional Office.

The objective of the workshop was to guide the NGOs to undertake micro enterprise development programme in the rural areas under the various promotional schemes of NABARD.


4. National workshop on "Micro Credit Management"
The representatives from 25 Non-Governmental Organisations from all over India attended the workshop. FODRA has organized the workshop during January 20-21, 1997 in collaboration with Small Industries Development Bank of India(SIDBI), Delhi Regional Office.



Long-term Partnership Projects


5. Self-Help Group Development, Microcredit Management and Enterprise Development among women in 118 villages of Matura

This collaborative initiative is the joint project of NIRPHAD(specialized NGO in rural health) and FODRA(specialized in microcredit and micro enterprise development) with a long-term strategic partnership alliance for sustainable implementation of the project among poor women in 118 villages of Matura district. Under this partnership initiative, FODRA takes the responsibility of development of sustainable self help groups among poor in different satellite village leading to sustainable employment generation through micro enterprise activities.

Duration of the Project :

November, 1995 to March, 2000 and SIMAVI, Netherlands is funding the project.

Objectives :

The basic purpose of this pilot self-help initiative is to make available credit to more than 2000 poor women of Matura, Uttar Pradesh for self-employment and other business and financial services by the year 2000 with following specific objectives :

- Creating village based organizational structure represented by women in the shape of SHG to provide or obtain services and undertake economic activities through collective action, which the poor women can understand and in which they can participate fully, thereby increasing their economic, social and political strength through mutual support.

- Mobilizing savings among the members of the self-help groups to meet the credit needs of its members, support the economic and social development activities, build assets and to serve as collateral for further borrowing credit from financial institutions to expand further.

- Strengthening women’s productive roles and restricting their reproductive roles by sensitizing on a range of common problems and gender issues thereby upgrading their knowledge base and ensure their participation in different social and development initiatives of NIRPHAD .

6. Entrepreneurship Development among Women, Adolescent girls and Youths of Tigri slum, South Delhi.

FODRA was hired by MAMTA(a specialized NGO in health care and AIDs) to implement its entrepreneurship development project funded by AusAID, Australian High Commission. The terms of reference of the assignment was to build the capacity and expertise of the programme staff to develop entrepreneurship among Women, Adolescent girls and Youths of Tigri slum through community sensitization, community resource analysis and grassroots level micro enterprise development training programmes and professional escorting services.

Duration of Project : August, 1997 to April, 1998


7. Enterprise management capacity building of 120 producer women in Kumaon region, Uttarakhand.

The purpose of this consultancy assignment was to design strategies and strengthen the enterprise management skills of the women producers of MAHILA HAAT(a specialized NGO in marketing of products produced by women producers) for sustainable implementation of its NORAD funded project "Enterprise management capacity building of 120 producer women in Kumaon Hills".

Duration of the Project : March - November, 1997


8. Micro Enterprise Development among women SHGs in Aligarh District of U.P Land Development Corporation(UPLDC)

Co-Consultant to develop a module/approach on rural entrepreneurship and micro credit management among the members of SHGs promoted by U.P Land Development Corporation(UPLDC) under it UP Sodic Land Reclamation Project funded by World Bank/IFAD.

Project Duration : Feb.,96 - June, 97


9. Streamlining the credit programme and repayment strategies to reduce the defaulting rate of 33 community based organisations(CBOs) in West Delhi slums promoted by Deepalaya, a field office of PLAN International.

Project Duration: June, 1994 - February, 1996


10. Developed a Community friendly SHG accounting and record keeping MIS system for U.P Land Development Corporation(UPLDC) to enable the SHG leaders in maintaining the SHG records with less support from the project staff.

Project Duration : February 1997 to April 1997


11. Prepared one training course unit on Self-Help Group Development for Indira Gandhi Open University for its foundation course on Training Perspectives during July - September, 1997


12. Study on "Wool Craft as an Economic Alternative among Women of Uttarakhand" for Mahila Haat in two phases (Sponsored by Fried-rich Ebert Stiftung, New Delhi).

Duration of the Project :September, 1996 to February, 1998


13. ''Village-wise Techno-Economic Survey and Haat(Rural Weekly Market) study'' in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh for U.P Land Development Corporation(UPLDC) under World Bank/IFAD funded Sodic Land Reclamation.

Co-Consultant to design the framework and coverage of study, design questioners for haat and village techno-economic survey and field test of the questionnaires in two/three districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The purpose of the project :

- To identify village profile on existing local skill and resources to determine their marketability in local haats.

- To develop village-wise entrepreneurial menu card on feasible income generating activities on the basis of analysis of village level local skill, raw-material and their marketability in nearby haat.

- To identify viable income generating activities in the surrounding village of a haat on the basis of demand-supply analysis of that particular haat.

(Haat means = Rural weekly market in villages)
