What is Dragonball?
Dragonball is based on Chinese legend, with a modern twist. The show focuses on a group of Earthlings who know martial arts and are capable of manipulating energy. It is a good ten years old now, though it has only recently been displayed to a mass audience in America.
When is DB/Z on TV?
Please go to our TV Schedule page for any questions on show times.
What channel number is DB/Z played on?
This is a very silly question, considering that most every cable provider has a different channel number. Just check your TV Guide or the preview channel for station numbers.
Who created DB/Z/GT?
DB was created by Toei Entertainment in conjuncture with Bird Studios, and is based on the mangas of Akira Toriyama. The show was produced in Japan, and is dubbed into English by FUNimation. This is why you will see many spellings of names from the series, as the translation is far from perfect. DBGT was also created by Toei/Bird, but Toriyama was not in on the project.
Series Questions
When will Cartoon Network show new episodes?
In case you have not noticed, season three has begun airing on Cartoon Network as of September 13th. Fifty dubbed episodes will be displayed, one each day. Season 4 will air in 2000, though no exact date has been given (Rumor has it that the new season will not air until September). No more Dragonball episodes are being produced in Japan, as the last of the three series, DBGT, ended a few years ago. Although there are many rumors of a "DBX" or "DB2," all are untrue. No new Dragonball is in production or even on the drawing board at the moment.
What happens in episode such and such/who is this character/etc?
Please, for the sweet love of god, do not e-mail me about what happens in the series. This is what the story, bios, message board, and this page are for. I will pretty much ignore any of these questions, unless I deem that the query is unanswerable from the info on this site.
How is the version in the US different from the original?
The American variant is greatly censored and cut, which greatly angered viewers who had seen the original. Roughly 19% on average is cut from every episode from seasons one and two; 53 American shows is the same as 65 of the Japanese version. Season three animation has remained pretty much untouched in the cut version, but the dialogue has been butchered significantly. And contrary to popular belief, there is no cussing at all in DB, DBZ, or DBGT. The fansubs tend to take liberties with the episodes and add a "fuck" and a "shit" when they feel it is necessary (Although there are mild insults and taunts, not to mention the occasional flipping the bird ^_^).
Where can I get the DBZ Daizenshus (World Guides)?
Currently, one of the few places on the internet that offers it is Galaxy Manga. If you live in a large metropolis like New York City, go to the China Town, and often there are anime stores that will sell the books.
How many episodes of DB/Z/GT are there?
Dragonball: 153
DragonballZ: 291
DragonballGT: 64
Site Questions
What do you use to create your site?
I use Adobe Photoshop 5.5 and Graphic Converter for the images; and Pagespinner, a non-WYSIWYG editor, for the HTML. I use a Windows 98 to design Planet Namek, but the site is hosted on Maxpages (Very fast connection).
Why isn't file (insert filename here) showing up properly?
95% of the time your browser is not set up properly. If you have not assigned a program to read mov files, when you try to view a clip it will look like garbled text. The simple fix is to install the FULL version Quicktime 4.0, which is available at http://quicktime.apple.com. Don't try to view the movie clips with media player once you have installed QT4, as it will not work. You HAVE to use the quicktime plugin or movie player. Another common problem is that people click on a link and it looks like absolutely nothing happens. In actuality, the file was probably downloaded to your hard drive, and all you need to do is find out where the default download directory is. However, I will occasionally make a mistake with a link. In this case you will see the error page, which will give a 404 error and say that the file was not found. If this happens to you please send me an e-mail and tell me EXACTLY where the broken link is. I will try to fix it ASAP.
Can you help design my site or give me a few pointers?
Currently I have been getting way too many e-mails on this subject. There are plenty of web design sites out there where you can get some help. Do not e-mail us about this, for we will just ignore it.
May I link to your page?
Of course you may, I don't mind the extra hits ^_^
Can you link to my page please?
Most of the time, the answer is no. However, roughly once a month we have a link submission period where we take URLs for a few hours and make a mass update to that section. Since this is a time-consuming process, I have to find a good day to do it, and there will be little warning. If you do miss a submission period, you'll have to wait for the next one. You will see an announcement in the news when we are accepting submissions. We do not add links in the interim.
Can you host me?
Nope. We look for good people to host, and we do not accept submissions. No exceptions.
Where do I submit fanart/fanfics?
Send fanart to pikachumatt@aol.com, and fanfic to pikachumatt@aol.com .
Can I print pictures/info contained in your page?
Sure you may, but if you decide to hand them out to friends and such be sure to mention where you got them from. ^_^
How/where did you get your domain name? How much does it cost?
Domain names are purchased from Network Solutions. They cost 70 dollars for the first two years, then 35 each additional year.
How come your site is so popular?
Original content is the key, and updating almost every day. When I first moved to the domain I submitted the site to about half a dozen search engines, and asked a few of my friends to link to me. The popularity grew afterwards on its own.
Can you post something for me in your news?
No...if I shouted out to everyone's "homies" and wished every single visitor a happy birthday, there would not be time for much else, would there? Unless you have some important news that will affect the community, I don't want to hear it.
Game Questions
Can you send me a ROM of (insert game here)?
No. The main reason being that its illegal. Since our site gets so much traffic, I don't care to have Nintendo suing me like they have nearly every high traffic site with ROMs on them.
I want to buy a DBZ game. Which one do you think is the best?
I prefer the fighters over the RPGs. Don't get me wrong, I love the RPGs, but the DBZ RPGs are... errr... not very challenging. Also, unless you can read Japanese, then I suggest you stick with the fighters. As for which DBZ fighter to chose, they are all excellent (except DBGT Final Bout). I enjoy Super Butoden 2 the most.
Can you please send me some DBZ ROMs? Besides, Its really not illegal as long as you delete them.
No, no and NO!!! I will NOT send you and DBZ ROMs or the links to download them. There are NO exceptions to this. And, yes, it is illegal to posses a ROM for even a second, even if you own the original (This just goes to prove, all it takes is one idiot to turn misinformation into fact).
Is (insert game name here) available in English?
Probably not. Only three games were released in English. They are:
Dragon Power (Shenron no Nazo) - NES
DragonBall Z: The Game (Buyuu Retsuden) - Genesis
DragonBall GT Final Bout (DragonBall Final Bout) - PSX
These games are no longer in production, and are impossible to find new. Check your local used game store, e-bay (be careful what you buy there!), or our list of DBZ Game Retailers.
Can you send me some screenshots of (insert game name here).
No. All of the screenshots I have are posted on the page. I am working to get some more screenshots, but it takes time.
Why don't you list the American DBZ games on your page?
They are listed. Do I have to point it out to you?
Why don't you list (insert name of rumored DBZ game here) on your page?
We aren't a rumors site. We only list released games. If you want rumors and hearsay, go to IGN, The GIA, or Sega Web (who, might I add, started the ever popular, but false, rumor of an DBZ Dreamcast game... I'd like to strangle them for that).
Will there ever be another DBZ game released in America?
Yes, this has been confirmed by FUNimation's CEO. It is also known that the game will definitely be for "a Sony system" (most likely meaning the Playstation 2), "PC and Mac" (I was surprised, yet pleased, with that one), and "other systems" (probably Dreamcast and/or Dolphin). The game will be released in Q1 2001 (that's January-March 2001) for the "Sony System". Release dates for any other platforms are unknown at this time. Finally, the developer has yet to be announced (as of February, FUNimation hadn't even picked one!).
What's this I see about a French/Korean/British release of a game?
Several of the DBZ games were released in countries other than Japan and America. Some of these games were completely translated into a foreign language, while others were simply sold in other countries without being translated.
I heard there were some DBZ arcade games. If so, why aren't they on your list?
Yes. Infact, they are now on our ever growing games list. However, as it would be rather hard for me to get my hand on one of these machines, I still rely on our visitors to provide me with information on these games.
Chat Questions
What do I need to use the chatroom?
The basic way to enter our channel is to use the java client in our chat section, which requires simply a java compatible browser. However, the channel can also be accessed with any IRC client by connecting to irc.animenet.org and joining #namek. If you are somewhat techno savy, I would use the second choice.
What are the rules of #namek?
Our rules are simple and very easy to follow, and there is no reason why they should be broken. Breaking these rules will most likely result in a kick or ban from the channel:
- No excessive profanity, racial slurs, or anything that is overly vulgar (We do have young children in our channel now and then)
- Do not beg for ops, or ask how to become an operator. We decide on our own terms, and asking is the quickest way to earn yourself a boot.
- Respect the operators of the room, insulting them is not going to make you many friends.
- No flooding or chat spam (This includes spamming your URL, we hate that ^_^).
What is the purpose of the room?
The purpose of our chatroom is for DB fans to meet and discuss their lives and animation in general. It is no way restricted to DB chat, as we talk about everything. :) The room is NOT for getting a quick response from the web masters of Planet Namek, use our e-mail for that.
Other Questions
Where can I buy DB/Z/GT Tapes?
You can find dubbed and subbed VHS/DVDs made by FUNimation on our merchandise page.
Can I use your files on my site?
Yes, but only if you follow these rules: You must only take multimedia, NOT information or fan files; you must copy the files to your own server (no linking directly to the files); and you must give us credit. If you catch a site either linking directly to our files or not giving due credit, do not report them to us, but rather send them a polite e-mail asking them to fix their mistake. Some people out there are just lamers, and they soon grow bored of their tirade and return to failing junior high. If your site is just other people's files, then there is no reason for you to have a website at all. Saving files to your hard drive for quick viewing is perfectly fine.
Can you send me (insert filename here)?
I really wish I could mass e-mail every person whatever files they want. (Yeah, right ^_-) I will absolutely NOT send you any files over e-mail, and I will NEVER create images/movies for people on special request. It would take too much of my time, leaving me no room to update anything else. If you are looking for a movie player, MP3 player, etc, please visit http://www.download.com. They will have any file viewer that you are looking for. I will not send any files via e-mail, please take the time to download them off the net yourself.
I really love this site and would love to help! What can I do?
Well, as far as full-time staff goes, we are already full. However, if you come across a new piece of news or info, please send it in.
What if I see another site with Planet Namek's files linked?
Report them to me immediately. These people slow the server down, which means slower downloading and page loading for everyone.
You made a mistake! Can I banter you via e-mail telling you how wrong you are?
I would really, really prefer if you didn't. I am very well-read on Dragonball, and unless you have seen the sub-titled version or read the manga, please do not e-mail me about supposed "mistakes" I have made (This includes spelling...I hate to break it to all you people who have only seen the dub, but most of the American spellings are completely wrong). I'm not perfect, and I do make errors sometimes, but a nasty, condescending e-mail doesn't help me much.
Will you join my RPG/Webring/Site Alliance?
No. Rest assured that if we wanted to, we would do so on our own power.
What if the answer to my question is not found anywhere on this page?
Visit our contact page. You will see a list of our staff, and you can decide who would best respond to your question/comment. |
