There is twenty-one items in Super Smash Brothers. They each have different effects. Here they are:

Carrying Items:

These items carry the other items. Other times, they will explode. They are:
Barrel: Barrels usually carry one item. They can carry anywhere from one to three. If you throw a barrel, it will not explode unless it hits another person or thing or a wall. They will also explode if you kick them. They are so heavy only Donkey Kong can carry them.

Capsule: Capsules only carry one item. They explode if the hit the ground or anything else. Anyone can carry them.

Crate: Crates usually carry the most items. They explode if they hit anything like the Capsules. Only Donkey Kong can carry them.

Chansey Eggs: Chansey eggs carry one items. They are just like capsules except you can usually only get them from a Chansey, but sometimes in one-player mode you can get them.

Regular Items:

Beam Sword: This sword is one of the best items. It can be thrown very far. Also, because of its length you can hit an oppenent before it can get close enough to hit you.

Bomb-omb: When the Bomb-omb hits anpther player, it sends them flying pretty far. It hurts your oppenent thirty percent. If you do not pick up them Bomb-omb soon after it comes into the arena, it will walk around and detonate if it touches anyone.

Bumper: The bumber is not a very powerful item. Although enemies fly pretty far when they touch them, it only hurts them one percent. If you kill an enemy with a bumper you will get 10,000 bonus points.

Fire Flower: Pick this up and you can shot fire. You can really hurt your oppenent a lot with these if they get close enough. Eventually it will run out, though.

Green Shell: You can throw the green shell at an oppenent. If it doesn't hit them, it will roll along the ground. If you throw the green shell it can not hurt you.

Hammer: This item is like the Hammer that Mario got in Donkey Kong. If you pick this item up, anyone that touches you will be hurt about thirty percent. Also if they have some damage, they might go flying into the backround.

Heart Container: The heart container is the best healing item in the game. It will completely recover you. One thing that is bad about it is that is floats when it comes out of something.

Home Run Bat: The Home Run Bat can be the most powerful item in the game. It does not hurt that much and it will not go far unless you run and throw it. But, if you hit over+A, the bat will sparkle and if you hit an oppenent, no matter how little they are hurt, it will automatically kill them (Ness's bat is not included).

Maximum Tomato: The Maximum Tomato is a very useful item. It will heal you 100 percent of damage. 100 percent does not mean completely heal you, it will just heal 100 percentage points.

Motion-Sensor Mine: The motion mine has about the same strength as a Bomb-omb. You place this on the ground and if anyone touches it, it will explode.

Paper Fan: The Paper Fan is not a very strong item. It is good for a few quick attacks. Since it is made of paper, it can not be thrown very far. If you throw it at an enemy, the enemy fly up instead of flying back.

Pokéball: Inside in the Pokéball is a Pokémon that will attack the enemy. If you throw it, a Pokémon will come out at random. (see Pokeballs)

Ray Gun: The Ray gun allows you to shot lasers at your oppenents. The lasers hurt more and are faster then Fox's Ray gun. The gun only has sixteen shots, so do not waste them. Also, the Ray gun can be thrown pretty far.

Red Shell: You throw the red shell like you do the green shell. It is different, though. If you throw the shell, it bounces around on the platforms that it is thrown on. It then will bounce around and home in on anyone including you, even if you threw it.

Star: The Star is just like it was in Super Mario Brothers. It makes you invincible for a short period of time.

Star Wand: The Star Wand has two effects. If you press over+A you will shoot a star. The star wand can only shoot 20 stars. Also, if you get really close to you oppenent, you can hit your oppenent twice in one hit.
