This is a walkthrough for Pokemon, an RPG on Game Boy. The purpose of Pokemon is to beat Gary and to catch 150 pokemon. On the new game I reccomend you name your character 'ASH' and your rival's character 'GARY'. You should enter the names in all capital letters. You will appear in your bedroom when the game starts. Go to the computer in the corner. Press 'A' to log on. Remove the 'potion' from the 'PC'. Then walk downstairs. Leave the town. Professor Oak will come running. Soon you will be in Oak's Lab. Talk to him and he will offer you a choice of three pokemon: Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. I reccomend picking Squirtle the water pokemon. He will fare better against the last two gym leaders in the game; Blaine and Giovanni. After you have recieved a pokemon you have to batte Gary. Only use 'Tackle' or 'Scratch'. The other two attacks don't hurt your opponent.
After defeating Gary go to the house directly north of the lab. Talk to Gary's sister. She'll give you a town map. The town map can be used to see where each route and city is. After recieving this travel north along Route 1. Fight all of the pokemon you see. Your Squirle needs the level ups. When you arrive in Viridian City enter the PokeCenter. Talk to the lady behind the counter. She will heal your pokemon. Next leave that building and go to the PokeMart. Talk to the lady there. She'll ask you to deliver a package back to Professor Oak.
Head back to Pallet Town with the package and talk to Oak. You'll recieve from him a PokeDex. This item keeps track of all the Pokemon you've seen and caught. Now head back to Viridian. Go back to the PokeMart and buy some Pokeballs. I reccomend you buy at least 15. Now head to the left side of Viridian City. You will see a passage. Proceed through with caution. You will see a patch of grass. Enter it and catch Nidoran and Spearow, but then leave. If you don't leave now you'll have to fight Gary and you're not strong enough yet. Re-enter Viridian and head north. Talk to the man in black. If you couldn't figure out how before he'll show you how to catch pokemon. Venture into Viridian Forest, due north of Viridian City.
Viridian Forest is a maze of bug pokemon and trainers. There are three items there, (seen on the screen as pokeballs), and sometimes if you're lucky you can run into a Pikachu. Fight everyone you see. You should now have more than six pokemon. You switch by going to a PC in any PokeCenter. Enter the area labled "Someone's PC." Then switch the pokemon around. By now you should have a lineup of:
Squirtle
Nidoran
Pidgey
Pikachu
Caterpie
Spearow
Fight the last trainer and leave Viridian Forest. You will enter a building. Talk to everyone and you should recieve HM 05, which teaches 'Flash.'
You've entered Pewter City. Now proceed with caution to Brock. I reccomend your Squirtle be at least at L14. Use Bubble on Onix and Geodude. Teach 'Bide' to Spearow. Head out of Pewter City. Make sure to stop at the PokeCenter first! After leaving town you enter a confusing maze of trainers. If you can get through this you'll be rewarded with two patches of grass. In the second is a pokemon you must catch: Jigglypuff. Now go to the PokeCenter. Get Spearow out of your party. (At the PC.) Put Jigglypuff in. Now enter the cave of Mt. Moon.
In this cave you'll get your first taste of Team Rocket. At the end of the cave you have a judgement call. There are two fossils. When you reach Cinnibar Island you can turn a fossil into a pokemon. This is your only chance so pick wisely! The Dome Fossil will gove you Kabuto. The Helix Fossil will give you Omanyte. Pick one and leave Mt. Moon. Inside you should have caught a Zubat, Geodude, Paras, and, if you're lucky, Clefairy. Now head to Cerulean City. Right before you enter the town there is a patch of grass. Enter it. If you have the Red Version catch an Ekans before entering. If you have the Blue Version catch a Sandshrew. Now enter the town. You will have to fight Misty. If you're Caterpie is now a Butterfree you're party to fight against Misty will be this:
Wartortle L18
Sandshrew/Ekans L13
Geodude L12
Pidgey L8
Pikachu L9
Butterfree L12
If you're Caterpie has not evolved have Jigglypuff in your lineup at L5. Go back to the patch of grass and fight until you get to these levels.
After defeating Misty you will recieve 'Bubblebeam.' Teach this attack to Wartortle.
