| Shawnee lake |
Lake Gordon / Lake Koons (Cumberland Dam) |
| There is a large algea bloom going on, and the fishing is really slow. I'm conserned that this might take a toll on the quality of fish this lake has produced. Shawnee is rated as a Large Bass Lake in Pa., which means you can't keep bass under 15 inches. Before the bloom, there was plenty of bass in the leagal limit. |
The Bass is hitting the top water lures like wildfire. There are some large bass being caught with topwater lures. Buzzbaits, frogs, and slugo's are the ticket. Fish around the weedbeds, for the best results. |
| Shawnee Lake Fish Survey |
Raystown Lake |
| Pa. Fish Commission did a survey this past week with some very interesting results. The lake was found to have a very large population of Brown Bullhead Catfish. Also there were a large amount of Northern Pike found to inhabit these waters. The biggest fish caught was a 48 inch,36 pound, muskie, not only was she caught and released, she found her way into the net a second time as well. There is also plenty of Yellow Perch, Black Crappies, and Blue gill. There were only a few Large Mouth Bass caught,as these are warm water fish, and the water temp. was between 40&50 degrees. A little to cold for larger numbers showing up. The larger Northerns were from the upper 20 inch mark into the upper 30 inch mark. A few were in the 40 inch mark. Not to bad, if I say so myself. Another test will be done in May, and I'll post a report on that one also. Remember to keep them lines as tight as possible. |
I haven't fished here this year. For more information please go to the following sites: http://rnrnow.com/fishreports/usparaystown.html and http://users.penn.com/~striperc/ . |
