Fly Fishing Spinners
With flyfishing I tend to lean towards dry flies. I like to see the trout rise and take the fly with a slurp. If their not hitting dries, I'll switch to streamers. Streamers I like fishing, casting downstream, then stripping the line back in. This immitates a minnow nicely. Have you ever seen a minnow facing downstream? For dry flies, my choices very according to the hatch, and time of the year. If it's in the Summer, I'll fish ants and beatles. For streamers I like the Wooly Bugger. I tend to use spinners in a way others tend to. I like to cast down stream, then slowly retrieve them back to me. Most people will cast up stream, and retrievethem down stream. I believe the up stream approach is better, Since I feel it imitates a minnow. Have you ever seen a minnow facing down stream? The colors that I like best are: black(on sunny days ) white, gold, silver, chartruse, and orange. Most of the time I use a Rooster-tail, even though they tend to bend. Try this approach the next time you fish for trout.
Bait
I like to fish bait early in the season. I fish bouncing off the bottom, with the current. I tend to use a number 10 hook(lazer sharp Eagle Claw if you can find them). The bait I preefer are: meal worms, and red worms (garden worms). I tie the hook on first, then add split shot about 6 inches above the hook. I use just enough weight to bounce the bottom freely. If you line stays in one place, you have to much weight. If I can, I'll fish with just the worm. If you find a trout that won't take your bait, flip over some rocks, and find yourself a crayfish. It'll get'em.
