Perch |
| For bluegills I like using an ultra-lite fishing rod. I use 4lb. Stren Magna-thin Clear. I like using a number 10 hook and very little weight(splitshot). I tie the hook on first, then add the splitshot about 6 inches above the hook, And squeeze the splitshot shut with a pair of pliers. I've been robbed many of times from a bluegill that needed more lead in it's diet. The bait that I use are: meal worms, red worms, and wax worms. If I'm fishing early in the year ( around the time of the spawn) I'll use Rooster tails. This can be a very fun way to catch a batch in a hurry. The colors I like are: black, Firetiger(what else), white, chartruse, glow orange, and glow green. I also enjoy catching them on a fly rod with dry flies. It's an easy way to learn fly fishing, and talk about a fight. |
I use basicly the same set-up as with blugill. For bait I tend to lean towards meal worms, wax worms, and minnows. I do catch pearch on spinners also, in the firetiger color. I look for rocky areas, or areas with stumps on the bottom. These areas tend to be the best for me. |
| Crappies |
| Crappies tend to be a hit or miss for me. I've caught them up to the 12 1/2 inch mark, but mostly by mistake. I use the same set-up as with the other panfish, maybe this is my mistake. I fish with: curly tail jigs, spinners, tube jigs, and bait(minnows, wax worms, meal worms). I've caught them in a number of areas: weed beds, shallow water, cover in the water, and also drifting in open water. Maybe one of these days I'll catch on to these little critters. |
