Top Water |
| The way that I like to fish plastic worms the most is by Carolina rigging them. I generaly use about 1-2 feet of 12 lb. test line behind a swivel, with a 2/o hook attached to this. I vary between sinkers, in both size and style. For bottom bouncing with little to no cover, I'll use an egg style sinker. For fishing cover, I go to a bullet style. Wieght depending on the depth of the water, and on the cover being fished. If I'm fishing in the spring, I'll fish mainly with lizzards in weed cover. This works very well for me. The colors that I fish are: black, purple, blue, met.red in worms, and chartruse, pumpkin seed in lizzards. The main line on both rigs that I use is 10lb. Stren Magnathin clear. |
For top water fishing I like the following lures: Pop R, Buzz Baits, and Scum Frogs. For Pop R's I tend to fish these differntly then anyone else. I'll cast them out wait for about 10 seconds and start poppng them back to me with a fast pace. Between each pop I wait about 2 seconds, and fish it all the way to the boat. I've had bass hit only a couple of feet away from the side of the boat. Buzz baits, I like to fish SLOW. I'll cast it and start my retrieve at the end of the cast. I tend to wind in the slack even before it touches down. I belive the fish are being fooled into thinking it's something landing on the water with style of retrieve. With frogs I like to fish them on top of thick weed beds and lillypads. Flop it on the cover, wait a few seconds, and pop it across very slowly. If you think your fishing slow enough, slow down some more. I've taken bass with it just laying still. The colors that I like are: Pop R's: perch color(favorite), bass color, and black with a white belly. Buzz Baits: BLACK, chartruse, and fire tiger. Frogs: white, black, and green. If you see me on the lakes, I'll have a buzz bait, and a pop r tied on at all times. |
| Spinner Baits |
| The way I like to fish spinner baits is to cast and reel. I'll make a cast past objects ( downed trees, stumps, rock piles, covered weedbeds) and reel past the object. The closer you get,the better your chance. Sometimes I'll even bump and run the object. The colors that I like are: Chartruse, black, yellow with white, and firetiger. I've even been known to troll one if I'm moving from one spot to another. I do this at a slow speed. Give it a try, you might be suprised at the results. |
