Well Saga Frontier is yet another wonderful RPG from Squaresoft, but then again, this whole site is dedicated to Squaresoft, so I guess it fits the bill. This game is unique because it offers over 120 hours of gameplay. You can choose to be anyone of seven characters, including Blue, Lute, and Riki. They are all from different species. In this new magical world there are three classes of race. The first are Humans. They are the main race and are mages, of sorts. They can either cast spells or use physical attacks. The second class are monsters. They have the ability to absorb powers from enemies they have defeated, but while they accuire the power, they also turn it the monster, which is preety cool. The third and final class are the Mystics. Hardly anything are known about these mysterious creatures. They are said to be the few humans left who can truly draw on their inner powers. They always travel in the shadows and keep to themselves, but they are not pushovers, they have some insane spells. You start the game by choosing a character. Next you proceed to wander through many towns in search of completing your life's quest. This is different for each character, but it includes the same worlds and towns. There are many sidequests along the journey and I have to say that some are so insanely hard that it is like trying to punch down the empire state building. It almost can't be done, almost. I say this because it is possible to complete these distractions and the rewards are stunning. This game has many dark secrets lying beneath it's polished surface, and in order to save the world and destroy your inner demons, you must uncover each and every one of them. Another compliment to this game is it's fabulous soundtrack. It has some of the deepest, most moving, and catchy tunes from any game I have ever played and that's way over 300.
I gave this game 9 out of TEN stars. I would have given it a perfect ten, but the graphics aren't the best and there are no CG cut-scenes and those sidequests are just so damn hard. If you are looking for a long involving challenge I highly recommend Saga Frontier. It is a welcome addition to any gamers library. |
