Grandia is an RPG from Squaresoft, of course. You are a young adventurer named Justin. You live in a small sea-side town and have dreams of exploring the new continent like your father. You start off wandering around town, following the storyline and completeing certain "tasks" to ensure yourself a ticket to the new world or, as the natives call it, Elencia. You try to slip off unoticed in the middle of the night, but your little sister, Sue, wakes up and insists on coming. What happens when you reach the new world is beyond anyone's imagination. This game has one of the most imaginative and far reaching storylines of and books movie or game I have ever experienced. You will go where no man has gone before through valleys, over mountains, across vast plains, and over The End Of The World. You must prove yourself to be the ultimate adventurer and save the earth from mankind and what technoligy it's spawned. This game has a non-linear plot, which basically means you have absolutley no idea what's coming next. I will admit that this game is tough. It took me about ninety-two hours to beat. And yes that is a very long time. Parts of the game you will get stuck on and be forced to go back and level up, but thats a welcome challenge. It isn't just sitting around collecting experience points, but more like discovering new treasures and gaining new spells all the time. And trust me, you will not have all the spells until you have played well over 150 hours, but are they ever worth it. Nothing can compare to watching Justin cast End Of The World. Expect an action packed story with plenty of plot twists and unexpected suprises and ends up with one of the most insanely intense endings in gaming history.
I gave this game NINE stars out of ten. With a storyline to rival that of Xenogears and a unique "old school" battle system, this is everthing you want and more. Graphics aren't as good, say, as in Final Fantasy 9, but where the clarity lacks the storyline makes up. Get ready for a thrill ride into the unknown. |
