RPG news and gaming news in general for the month of December and January.

December

Grandia 2- Follow up to the insanely popular Grandia comes out December 2000. It boasts a brand new battle system consisting of physical, magic, and special attacks. I have also been told that the storyline surpasses the first, if that is possible and the graphics are equal to those of Final Fantasy 9 and Skies Of Arcadia. It’s platform is Sega Dreamcast.

Skies Of Arcadia- A riveting RPG in which you fly high through the skies as pirates on a treasure hunt that turns into so much more. Includes graphics to compete with the newest technologies and deep character portrayal. An epic storyline greatly adds to the game. It’s platform is Dreamcast.

Final Fantasy 9- The ninth in the series, yet it has nothing to do with the former games. Deep complex storyline along with easy to use battle system make for fantastic gameplay. If it has the Final Fantasy title, you know it’s good. Also includes amazing CG cut-scenes. It’s platform is Playstation.

Shenmue- The first of it’s kind in real time gameplay. Every battle you encounter is not based on turns, but in live, second to second action. You can also interact with every character and every item. Explore more then three “real cities.” Amazing graphics also compliment it. It's platform is Dreamcast.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2- Amazing gameplay. So real looking it's scary. Beautiful texture-mapped landscapes and the fact that you can grind absolutely every object make this game really cool. A new line of characters fill the roles of your spill toys as you can also fall down and watch it over and over and over. Trust me, there are some funny spills. Also, the sound is very accurate, you find yourself grinding just o here the wood on steel effect. It's platform is Dreamcast and Playstation.

January

Phantasy Star Online- Absolutely the most inventive RPG of the new millenium. Brings a new genre of games to the public. This is an online RPG. Yes I did just utter those words you have been waiting for for so long. The gameplay is diablo-esque, and you can play with 4 people in a game. Since Dreamcasts all have the same modems there is virtually no lag. There is a deep storyline and numerous quests to complete. You can level up your characters offline, then play them online, or vise versa. Overall it makes for a kickass game with great graphics. It's platform is Dreamcast.

Upcoming System Data

Playstation 2- The new game system from Sony. This console will include a wider "variety" of games the the first Playstation. It will have more adventure/roleplaying games then the first and will also include, according to various sources, many new types of simulation games. This system will also play all of your ols Playsation games, which a big plus, and will also be able to play DVD's. A two-in-one deal, sounds great. The graphics on this new system are phenominal, beautifully texture-mapped landscaped and real tim,e action make the feel of gaming on PS2 like no other. The price, as of now (December 24, 2000) is 300 dollars. Not to pricey, if you can find one, they are very scarce. The sound quality is also amazing. Every intricate detail has an accompaning sound. You will be checking to see if that crash was in the game or coming from your closet. Somehow Sean has managed to get his hands on one and will be writing more about it and it's games later on this coming year.

Gamecube(formerly Project Dolphin)- This new system, expected to come out by third quarter 2001, is said to have the most impressive graphics of any system ever seen. It remains to be seen what the final products look, and feel, like, but so far we here have high hopes. The graphics, as shown to the public now, seem to be as good throughout the entire game as the advanced CG cut-scenes in the acclaimed Final Fantasy series. We here that Gamecube, produced by Nintendo, will boast a similar control pad to that of the N64, Nintendo 64, and will allow for more of a free-roam feel then the previous system.

X-Box- This is coming from Microsoft. It will be faster then my current computer, 733mhz, and will be the best console to date. Too bad it doesn't come out until first quarter 2002. The sources from Microsoft say that the price will be competitive with the consoles on the market at that time. No, we have no idea what that means either. There are currently no screenshots from the upcoming masterpiece, but insiders at Microsoft and IGG technologies have said that the results are twice as good as anything we've seen coming from Gamecube. I really don't see how that is possible, but I am interested to find out. More information will be available to the public as the year progresses.
