Final Fantasy 9, like all the others, is an RPG by Squaresoft. In this game you play as Zidane Tribal, a young man aboard a flying pirate ship. You're mission, as the game begins, is to put on a play for the empire of Alexandria and it's noxious queen. While the rest of your crew put on a fabulous play, you must kidnap the beautiful, and rebellious, princess Garnet Til Alexandros the 17th. As you go to kidnap her you find a strange coincidence at hand. It seems that Garnet wants to be kidnapped. She is getting quite sick of castle life and wants to adventure the world, with you!! As you escape from Alexandria your ship gets impaled with many, many, chain weapons. As your flaming ship crashes down into the Evil Forest you realize this is gonna be one hell of a ride. The battle system in this unique old-school fantasy is quite new to the gamers who are used to the linear battle systems of previous Final Fantasy's. It adds a new, interesting, element to the gameplay. Each character can learn abilities through experience, but every character has a certain type of magic or attack that is only theirs. Steiner has sword arts, Vivi has black magic, Garnet(Dagger) has white magic, and so on. This means if Steiner dies, no more psycho double-slash picasso blade for you. This is actually kind of cool because there are more types of attacks and magic. Strap in for you will brave every type of landscape known to man, kill everything from dragons to black mages to Eternal Darkness(play the game, then you will realize the true meaning). Sit back in your most comfortable armchair, buy rations for about two months, and play, play, play until you feel like you are going partially blind. Only then will the crystals be yours.
I gave this game NINE stars out of ten. The battle system is quite imaginative and the graphics are very impressive. As far as storyline goes this is the best I've seen besides Final Fantasy 7 and Xenogears. If you are an RPG fan this is must-have for your videogame library. |
