SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment) have announced that they have sold just under 1 million PlayStation 2s on its first day.
The exact Japanese sales figure is 980,000. Sony have also sold 1.3 million PS2 games and claim that DVD movie sales are also up.
However, not everything is going Sony's way. A problem in the plant that manufactures the new memory cards has caused a 10 day slippage in production. Sony estimate that this delay will cause sales to full some 100,000 units short of their first month target of 1.5 million. The new figure of 1.4 million is still nearly 10 times more than the original PlayStation sold in its first month of release.
Sony are now estimated to have a 70% market share in the world console market.
