| Two Million PS2's in Two Days? Sony expects huge gains in revenues based on projected sales of the PlayStation2 in Japan. February 2, 2000 Sony Corp announced today that it expects large gains in total revenue based on its projected sales of its upcoming next-generation videogame system, the PlayStation2, which is set for a March 4, 2000 release in Japan. The company fully expects that the PlayStation2's success will even surpass its predecessor, the original PlayStation. The corporate advisor to Sony, Kiyoshi Yamakawa, also stated that the company hopes to sell two million units in the first two days of the launch. This is a pretty lofty expectation considering that thus far, Sony has only announced that one million units will be shipping at launch. However, it's quite possible that the company could ship additional units for the second day of the launch or just increase its initial shipment. If this goal is met, the PlayStation2 launch will have the most successful launch in videogame history. In fact, even if this lofty goal isn't met, the chances are still great that the PS2 launch will be the most successful ever. Either way, IGNPSX will be in Japan on March 4, 2000 to cover the momentous occasion. |
