The ultimate Ruby WEAPON strategy

LONG BUT EFFECTIVE STRATEGY:

First off, you need to get a Gold Chocobo (see 'Chocobo Breeding' guide) and head northeast toward the corner of the world map on your Gold Chocobo. You should see a small, sheltered island somewhere. Head toward it and dismount when you get there. Head inside the cave to receive the ultimate Summon Materia: 'Knights of Round' (Knights of the Round Table). From here, go southwest toward the Wutai continent. Go south from Wutai and head into an isolated cave to find the 'Mime' Materia.

From this point, go to Sephiroth's Crater and take the left fork to fight Magic Pots. Fight with the Apocalypse (see the 'Materia Tips' guide) so your Materias level up quicker. Level up your 'Knights of Round' Materia until you master it and gain a new one.

Go to the Battle Arena and play until you get the 'W-Summon' Materia. Play even further and gain access to the Special Battle Arena. Go into the Special Battle Arena and play until you win a 'Final Attack' Materia.

Be sure that you did Yuffie's side quest in Disc II and got the 'MP Turbo' Materia from the village, otherwise you will have to take extra time to kill Ruby.

Equip your best character's Ultimate Weapon on them, and a Mystile for defense. Pair your Materia as follows:

Ultimate Weapon: 'Knights of Round'-'MP Turbo' 'Knights of Round'-'HP Absorb' 'Final Attack'-'Revive' 'W-Summon'-'Mime'
Mystile: 'HP Plus'-'MP Plus' 'Your Choice'-'Your Choice' 'Your Choice'-'Your Choice'

Kill off two party members (besides your best) before you fight Ruby. Head to the desert near the Gold Saucer and use either a Gold Chocobo or Highwind to hit the red worm in the middle. There will be a flash of light, a crashing sound, and Ruby WEAPON will stand at full strength before you.

RUBY WEAPON:
HP: 1,000,000
ATTACKS: Whirlsand, Tentacle, Ultima, Attack
WEAKNESS: None

If two or more of your party are alive, Ruby will use 'Whirlsand' to permanently remove one of your party members from battle. He will do this until you have only one person remaining. If you don't have status protection, the tentacles will attack and add 'Frog' and 'Gradual Petrify' to your character. He will counter-attack your every move with the powerful 'Ultima' spell, so watch out.

When the battle commences, Ruby WEAPON will lower its two tentacles into the ground (because you killed off two party members. DON'T REVIVE THEM!) and lower its defense. This is where you use the 'W-Summon'-'Knights of Round' combo. The Summon will restore your health, which is almost vital, and deal massive damage to Ruby. Keep mimicking this and you're sure to make your way to victory in no time.

If, however, you die, you have to re-cast the original spell. Do not revive your allies or Ruby will gain its defense again, retract its tentacles, and use 'Whirlsand' until you have only one person left.

SHORTER, EASIER, NOT AS EFFECTIVE STRATEGY 1:

First of all, you have to get a Wizard Bracelet, 1 Gravity Materia, a Quadra Magic Materia, W-Magic Materia, and Mime Materia. Equip the Wizard Bracelet, Conformer, and the Gravity Materia on Yuffie, but be sure to pair it with Quadra-Magic. Now equip the W-Magic and Mime Materias.

Now, you could put additional Mime Materias on other people, and you should have a healer using Cure3 or Megalixer. Use the Final Attack-Phoenix or Final Attack-Life combo if possible. Pound Ruby with Demi up to 8 times a round, and if you have HP/MP absorb, you will more often than not get all your health back in a single turn. The fight should go fairly well unless your character is transformed into a frog and attains the Gradual Petrify Status.

SHORTER, EASIER, NOT AS EFFECTIVE STRATEGY 2:

You should get 13 Counter-attack Materias, Command Counter, a mastered Cover, and Mime. Equip a Wizard Bracelet and Conformer on Yuffie, and put all the Counter-attack Materias on her, and equip Command Counter-Mime as well as a mastered Cover. This will make it so that the first time anyone gets hit, Yuffie will retaliate 13 times, and the second time she will retaliate 26 times. Equip Final Attack-Phoenix or Final Attack-Life combos and you should be fine the entire battle.

ALTERNATE STRATEGY: If you're feeling lucky, you can have Cait Sith participate in the battle with his Level 2 Limit Break: Slots ready. There is a combo on the slots that will instantly cause victory for you, but the chances are approximately 2/95 of success.
