Chapter Seven - Into The Dome
AndrAIa let the fact that her mother had truly deleted wash over her. The memories of when her mother had started deleting came fresh into her mind as though the event had occurred only moments ago.
AndrAIa had been following the User for a millisecond already. Then she saw what looked like energy floating through the water from behind a large rock jutting up from the sand. But you wouldn't see something like that until the next level. Curiosity took her over and she went over to see it. Her curiosity turned into horror as she saw what it was. Her mother was sprawled across the ground as a creature stood over her, licking her energy from his fingertips. AndrAIa gasped at the sight. The creature heard her and charged toward her. She screamed. Then something went through the creature's head. AndrAIa could hear the crack of its skull shattering. It was an arrow that AndrAIa recognized as one of her father's. She looked to the direction the arrow had come from and saw him there. He was looking at his wife's motionless body. He swam to her fast to see if she was still alive. AndrAIa saw her brother coming up from behind another rock. He too swam to his mother. Andr! AIa went slowly. Her mother was talking in a low voice. A large gash was on her stomach. AndrAIa could hear her mother's words "I heard AndrAIa scream. He went after her. Is she alright Alex?" Alex had been inspecting his wife's wounds. "She's just fine KristalAIa. She's just fine. See?" He wrapped an arm around AndrAIa. "Baby, did he hurt you?" she asked. AndrAIa waved her head. KristalAIa gave a grateful sigh of relief. "I don't know what i'd do if something happened to you or Chris. Alex, it was a virus." Alex looked at his wife with a spasm of fear on his face. He let go of AndrAIa and picked his wife up in both of his arms. "I'm taking you to see a doctor 'Ris. You two go back home and stay there. Chris, take care of AndrAIa while i'm gone." He did something funny with his icon and a portal appeared. Neither AndrAIa nor Chris had ever seen anything like this. Alex swam through it and disappeared. It was the last time AndrAIa or Chris would see their mother again.
Alex looked at his daughter's saddened face. "Don't be sad Andri. Ya know, when she deleted, she told me that she finally got her wish. That she'd be with all of us." AndrAIa didn't look at him. Chris got up and motioned for his father to sit where he was. Alex took Chris's seat and Chris took his. Alex put his arms around his daughter. He took her chin and made her look at him. "AndrAIa, listen to me. You know and I know that if there was any way to bring her back, I would have done it. But there isn't any way to bring back game sprites after a virus deletes them." AndrAIa rested her head against his chest. She didn't cry, but it was hard to keep the tears from coming. They heard a loud chime coming from somewhere. All three had to cover their ears. Chris took three pairs of what looked like earplugs out of one of his pockets. He handed a pair to AndrAIa and Alex, who gratefully accepted. The plugs made them hear very little of what was going on. "All right, can you hear me?" AndrAIa could hear Chris. "Loud and clear." She heard her father say. "Andri?" he asked. "Yeah, hey, what are these?" Chris explained. "They're special earplugs for game sprites with hearing like ours. We only need them until the chiming stops, when we're all in the dome. Dad, you want to explain that?" Alex nodded. "Sure, but let's walk and talk." They exited the restaurant after paying Julie for their order. "We're all going into the Dome by our last names. They're going to do it from the back of the alphabet. We'll be one of the first ones in. Once we're all assembled, someone's going to explain what's going to happen from that point on. That's it. Or at least that's all that I know." At the front of the dome, they let their let
their icons be scanned quickly before going in. They went to the front where a stage was and waited for everyone to get into the dome. It didn't take very long at all. At last, the chiming stopped. AndrAIa took out her earplugs. She heard the doors of the dome close. There was no turning back now.
