There may be Spoilers so be warned......
The story starts out in a place called Balamb Garden, a military school, which trains students to become part of the elite group of special forces called SeeD. Squall and Seifer, two students training there, are practicing and they get a little too carried away. As a result, Squall ends up in the clinic with a scar on his face. While recovering, Quistis, his teacher, enters and takes him to finish his training. Later, he meets up with Zell, a energetic teenager, and Selphie, a ditzy girl, who are also training for SEED. All of them, Quistis included, go to Dollet to participate in the SEED final exam. There are Galbadian soldiers there, and the students defeat them and escape. When they return to the garden, they are informed by Cid, the garden principle, that all of them except Seifer has graduated. At the graduating party, Squall runs into Rinoa, a pretty, funny, pure-hearted girl (AKA- the main chick of the game). She talks to him, then drags him onto the dance floor. She then leaves to do something important. Later, Quistis tells Squall that she was relieved of her duties as a teacher for being to friendly to the students. Now she is just like him, so there is no more awkard student-teacher thing between them. Squall doesn't get that she likes him, but it doesn't really matter anyway. They are then assigned to help out a group of rebels called the Forest Owls that are trying to drive out the Galbadian forces in their town.Their so-called princess, oddly enough turns out to be Rinoa. They try to kidnap the Galbadian president but fail. They later try to break in a television where the president annouces the new embassidor, the witch Edea. Seifer and Quistis break in before the others though. Seifer's mind is then taken over by Edea and they the three vanish. During the witch's parade, the team try to assassinate her, but everything goes wrong. Rinoa is attacked by evil statues when she trys to take on the witch by herself. Edea then kills the Galbadian president, and announces herself as an evil dictator, and all those who oppose her will suffer. Squall and the others rescue Rinoa, then take on the witch and Seifer.
