A ferret is....
A mammal from the mustelid family (otters, weasels, badgers, skunks, polecats, etc.) in the form of a weasel. Females are about 14 inches long, whereas males can be up to 16 inches in length. This animal was once used for hunting, but now is the perfect house pet. This pet is popular because it is exotic, yet manageable. Apartment dwellers love them, because they don't take up much space, and they are easy enough for a child to care for. The domestic ferret feeds off of dry kibble and water. Vitamins can be added to food and water, and special treats can be given too! Baths take five minutes in your bathroom sink, and cleaning a ferret's cage takes about ten. As you can see, this pet is easily manageable. All you need is time, and room in your heart. You can't buy a ferret and keep it in a cage all day! There must be at least 2 hours of free time, but three or four is preferred. The number one thing ferrets are is a COMMITMENT!!!
Ferrets were fad pets in the 80's, but they slowly went out of style. As it is with most fad pets, many were purchased when the animals were "cool" and then, once they were out of style, they were dumped in shelters. I still think that ferrets are awesome, and the best pet yet!
