Like a party, the arrival of your ferret needs special preparation. Here's what you need to do!
CAGES:
When first arriving at home, the ferret should be in a cage. Even if your ferret isn't going to live in a cage you should do this. I suggest this because the ferret is in a new atmosphere, and may be frightened. He may hide if let loose,or get lost.
If you are looking for a cage, avoid wooden cages.
The material absorbs smells after your ferret uses the bathroom, and encorages the ferret to use that spot again. The wood is also hard to clean.A wire cage is perfect for the job. It must be large enough to make your ferret cozy and comfy and built so your pet wont escape.
If you need a temporary cage, the bathtub is perfect! The ferret has a 1 out of 10 chance of getting out!
BEDS:
A small rag or towel is requested for your ferret to sleep with. A box may be used also. Petshops sell "hammocks"
for ferrets to sleep in. My ferrets have 2 and they enjoy sleeping in it. I also encourage you to buy one for your ferret.
FOOD AND WATER CONTAINERS:
A heavy food dish is recommended. If it is light enough, your ferret can tip it over, and what a mess!!!
A water bottle for rabbits or hamsters is
recommended. A bowl could be easily spilled and baby kits love to play in water! That would make a wet mess!
LITTER PAN:
Any washable litter pan can be used. Some ferrets don't like using the pan. Some even dig in it! I just let my ferrets use the bathroom in the corner, as long as we can clean it. |
