Believe me, I know! I got my ferret from another person, who didn't know about litter training, and it has been hard trying to break an old habit. That is why it is essential to start litter training your kit from the start.
Doing this is easy though, so don't worry. You start by purchasing a cage corner litter pan from a local pet store. Try not to use a dusty litter, because it could irritate your pet's nose. The main problem I had with litter training Rocki, was that he thought that the litter pan was a sandbox to play in. To make sure your pet doesn't do that, put a sample of fresh feces in the pan. Ferrets dont like being dirty, so if this is done, your ferret should know what the pan is for. It takes patience, and I am still working on it. Rocki has gotten so accustomed to using the corner of his cage that there really is no sense in stopping him, especially since he got my other ferret doing it too. That is why it is important (if you want to save time and a hassle) to train your ferret early.
