Your ferret already gives off a musky odor, whether descented or not. That is why it is a good idea to bathe your ferret every once in a while. In the winter I usually bathe mine once a month, and in the summer, every other week. This helps to reduce the musky scent given off by their glands.
Bathing a ferret is not a serious task. All you need is a sink, some shampoo (specially formulated ferret shampoo is reccomendede but baby shampoo will work also), a towel, and water. The procedure takes just about five minutes and clean up is a cinch. First, you have to fill the sink with warm water and place you ferret in the water. Once the ferret is completely wet, you have to lather some shampoo and scrub the ferret. Be gentle though, because ferrets are delecate creatures. After that, you rinse off you ferret and wipe the excess water off him/her. Wrapp your cuddly pal in a towel and rub it dry. If your ferret is still damp, and it is reasonably warm in the house, it can airdry itself.
Clipping your ferret's toenails is also a nescesity. This will make them easier to handle. Consult your vet about the proper method to use.
I hope this guide has given you enough information to successfully groom your ferret! |
