This page is designed to tell you just what ferrets like to eat, and what is safe for them to eat. Always go by these guidelines, or ask your vet about specific foods.

Ferrets are somewhat carnivorus. When I say this, I mean that when they were once used for hunting, they were given beef and foul for meals. Nowadays though, the domestic ferret eats a kibble mix, fortified with the proper nutrients for a daily meal. I reccomend Shepard & Greene, or Marshall's brand foods. Food should be on hand at all time, but if you are really in a bind, cat food will do the trick. Remember though, that cat food is not a substitute for regular food. It doesn't have all the nutrients needed, so it is only qualified for a day or two.

Water should be given in a water bottle attached to the side of the cage. It should be changed often, because think about it: how would you like to be given water that has been sitting for days? Vitamins can be added to water also. They come in a small dropper bottle, and you can put five drops in to give the ferrets a supplement. I personally use this method to give my ferrets extra nutrients.
