Bringing a ferret into your household is a very big descision. It is very hard to determine what your ferret's personality will be until you bring it home, so it is reccomended to choose your ferret by sex, color, and plain intuition. There really isn't a big difference between the male and female ferrets, besides size. An average male ferret is about 16 inches long and weighs about 3 lbs. On the other hand, a female normally weighs a pound and a half, with a length of 14 inches. If you really don't care about gender, but you are a little short on cash, you may want to choose a male, simply because it costs less to get a male neutered. If you are buying a young ferret, a kit, do not look for ones with masks because they don't come that way. A ferret develops its mask gradually, as it becomes older. Last but not least, if you would like to buy a descented ferret, to reduce their musky scent, you should talk to a local breeder or a pet store, because they can usually sell you one. All in all, choosing your ferret is a cinch. You only have to use your head and your heart.

Another way to get a ferret, if you are interested in saving money, is by going to a shelter. Shelters can provide you with descented, neutered/spayed ferrets at a lower cost. Don't you think it would be better to save a ferret's life? You can click on the link below to see a listing of the Ferret Shelters in your area! I hope this page will be helpful to you!
