Many people reccomend a type of cat food as a substitute for ferret food. Of course, cat food can be used when you're in a bind, or when mixed with ferret food, but regular use is not good for your pet. Cheaper cat foods are often too high in fiber, and won't suit your ferret's needs. They generally lack many essential vitamins and minerals. Cat foods also have vegetable proteins, which are poor quality for ferrets. As you can see, cat food is not as healthy as people wish it was, and it is not as high quality for a ferret either. Instead of cat food, try a high quality kitten food. If money is the problem, try mixing kitten food and ferret food, to use as somewhat of a filler. Just remember that when you pay high prices for ferret food, it is because you are paying for the proper pet nutrients. Buying good ferret food isn't really a waste of your money anyway, because you pay extra for the proper nutrients, therefore your pet eats less. Now that I'm giving you this information, I hope you'll make the right decision when feeding your ferret.
