WHY I OWN FERRETS
Some people think I'm crazy, but they'd never say it to my face, because I get defensive about ferrets just as I would about a family member. Hmm... why I own ferrets... that's a tough one. There's so much to love about them... or let me rephrase that... what's NOT to love about them? Ferrets are great companions. Maybe they are a little hard to take care of in the beginning, but the work is worthwhile.
Over the years I've come to see that ferret owners are good people. Let me change that: ALL PET OWNERS ARE GOOD PEOPLE. Who else can come home from a day of work or school and put all their time and effort into an animal? Cleaning a cage every day, baths twice a month in the summer, at least an hour of playtime (supervised) daily: some people call it trouble. I call it character building. I call it work. I call it responsibility. Maybe a little too much responsibility, some people will say, but I know others who would opt for ferrets over kids any day.
The rewards make it all pay off. I have so much fun playing with the little rascals! Who is there for me when I've had a bad day? Not my dogs... they are too busy playing to notice. Not my cats... they are either asleep, eating, asleep, grooming, asleep, tormenting the dogs, etc. Ferrets are always happy to see you. They are the beings that will actually revolve their schedule around you. I know our world does not revolve around me, but their's does! If I am at school, they wake up when I arrive home. If I go out all day, they are ready to play when I get home at midnight! They bounce around my feet, lick my toes, crawl in my jacket hood, and are happy to see me. Now I know all animals love people who treat them right, and I love all my pets. I think ferrets have taught me the most though.
I have learned so much from my ferrets. I got my first when I was in sixth grade. Rocki was great, but he was my pet. It was part of my dad's decision to let me have a ferret, if and only if I was the sole caretaker. I bought Rocki; I bought his cage, his supplies, his vet visits, his food, and everything he would need. From doing this, I have learned responsibility. Who cleaned the cage every day? Whose room did the cage stay in? Who fed, excercized, and bathed the ferret? It wasn't my parents. I have learned to prioritize my life.
I also learned that being a pet owner is not easy. In fact, the more pets you have, it may seem the happier you are, but this is not true. I've learned that the more pets you have, the less time you can give to each one individually. The more pets you have, the lonelier they'll be in the long run. I was thinking about it and I decided that maybe it would be better if I stopped adding to my animal zoo, for now at least. With all the things going on in my life, it seems completely unfair to let my pets suffer because I can't give them one hundred percent of my time. What do you think?
A SAD LOSS
Zeus passed away on April 9, 2001 due to causes that are unknown. He was out playing that morning, but in the afternoon, my stepdad found him laying in his cage, dead. We buried him in the woods out back, but I still am very sad. I have never had a ferret pass away on me before. I know he is in Heaven eating all the raisins he can, and I know I will see him there. To help others going throuigh this same situation, I'm in the process ofmaking a memorial page dedicated to lost ferrets and other pets. They are all in heaven, and this will help to create some sort of closure for greiving owners. To include your pet on this page, e-mail me your name, your pet's name, the approximate dates of the animal's life, and a personal memory or story you would like to be included.

I truly think that nothing is better than an all ferrets site. Ferrets rule, because they are fun and easy to care for pets. They're not as common as cats and dogs, which is kinda funny! Whenever one of my friends comes over, they almost always want to see or play with my ferrets! I have been owning them for four years, since sixth grade. They always put a smile on my face, and make me appreciate life! So that's why I love ferrets! Actually, my mom just got a puppy, and I just introduced my ferrets to him! They think that the pup just another ferret, and the pup thinks my ferrets are other dogs! Remember though, that when you let your ferret play with other animals that it's not familiar with, you should always stand nearby to supervise. I've heard too many stories about ferrets getting hurt or even killed when left unsupervised with other pets. I cannot stress this enough- Always Supervise Your Ferrets When They Play With Other Animals!!!
I'm hoping to add a lot of information on ferrets to this site, but it will be constantly under renovation, so be sure to come back often! For now, enjoy my site, and please, vote for it!!!!!
You can visit my other web site as well. It's called My Zoo, and it has information about
ferrets and other animals. The address is:

Enjoy!
