When selecting your team look for durable players, the Mediocre, average, everyday
players who perform week end and week out will do your
team more good than one who plays sporadically.
........In most Fantasy Football Leagues, you will choose
two players for each position, QB, RB, FB, WR, TE, K,
Special Teams and Defensive Teams. Each week you
will choose a starter or active player for each position
and put the other's on your reserve squad.
Remember this is a game of statistics only. Intangibles
will not win for you. It doesn't matter who wins the game
here. Statistics wins for yor Fantasy Team.
Players on good teams are better fantasy players but be
careful! Choose players that put up lofty numbers each
week. Most NFL teams have many weapons so in turn
it spreads the scoring over several plays. Pay attention
to who they are playing and how good the opponent's
defense may be.
Quarterbacks on teams with a good offensive line and a
good defense are always a plus unless they match their
defense in ineptitude, because teams that are losing in
blowouts, put up meaningless yardage and touchdowns
since the other team has pulled a lot of starters from the
game. Thus the QB is involved in shootouts and this is
good for your fantasy team.
Pay close attention to changes in teams made on the
offensive line. Linemen don't show up in the fantasy
football stats but they can make or break your fantasy
team. To score fantasy points, running backs need good
blockers and the QB and WR need time to make plays.
Know your leagues scoring system. In most fantasy
leagues TD's count 6 points, which makes short yardage
full backs a premium, while in others only yardage counts
so you need those RB's and WR's to get the yardage to
get the ball ot the "red zone" and in other leagues both
yardage and touchdowns count which means you need
a good mix to maximize your scoring ability.
Your receiver should be the go-to-guy on the team. What
you want is for your receiver to be the main man on the
team, but well complimented with a quality partner and
not the only man on the team because if he is IT--he will
be doubleteamed every game.
Kickers can win or lose games for fantasy leaguers just
like in a regular game - a kicker can make the difference.
So pick a good one and stick with him through the normal
kicker ups and downs.
Know how the defense and special teams weigh in your
league. Some FFL's combine the two and give points for
touchdowns, sacks, interceptions, and fumble recoveries
so pick this position near the end of your draft and look
only at how many takeaways a defense had.
About Rookies. The general rule is to only draft them in
keeper leagues, since even the gonna be great ones have
up and down first seasons--so if you do grab one make
sure you have a well qualified starter on your team and
use the rookie sparingly.
