Techs

Techs have to be one of the most important parts of Chrono Trigger. Its like limit breaks in Final Fantasy, you gotta learn em’!

Techniques are attacks and Magic Spells that the characters can learn as they acquire Tech points from defeating enemies. Each Technique requires a certain amount of Tech points before it is available to use, and there are also dual techs and triple techs where two or three characters use one of their Tech skills in Combination with eachother to make it even more powerful.

When you go to use a Tech skill in battle and select a monster, the area of effect is different for each Tech. Some Tech skills has circular areas of effect such as Crono’s Technique Cyclone. In this case, choosing the monster in the middle will also hit the monsters around it. Some Tech’s attack in a straight line and will hit all the monsters lined up front or behind the monster you select.

Magic Spells (Combo Techs) are different from normal Techs because they use an elemental force. Some characters have an inherent element, such as Crono and Lightening, Lucca and fire, and Marle and water. This means that they can only cast their inherent type of magic. They will take less damage from this element, but more from their element’s opposite. IE, Marle will succomb more to fire, but wont be harmed as much by water. To learn a Dual or Triple Tech, you simply must learn the two or three techniques of the different characters that go together. Then when in battle together, wait until their meters are all filled up and you can chose Combo Attack and use the Dual or Triple Tech attack of your choosing.

Crono

Cyclone (2 MP): Strike nearby enemies while spinning.
Slash (2 MP): Slashes enemies in a straight line.
*Lightning (2 MP): Damages enemy with lightning.
Spincut (4 MP): Inflicts twice as much damage as a normal attack.
*Lightning 2 (8 MP): Lightning attack for major damage.
Confuse (12 MP): Jump on enemies head and slash four times.
*Life (10 MP): Revives an ally.
*Luminaire (20 MP): Casts the ultimate magic on all enemies.

Marle

Aura (1 MP): Partially restores an ally’s HP.
Provoke (1 MP): Taunt and confuse an enemy.
*Ice (2 MP): Attacks an enemy with ice.
*Cure (2 MP):Partially ercovers an allies HP
*Haste (6 MP): Reduces an allies wait time by half
*Ice2 (8 MP): Ice attack for major damage/multiple
*Cure2 (5 MP): Fully restores an ally's HP.
*Life2 (15 MP): Revive and fully restore an allies HP

Lucca

Flame Toss (1 MP): Throws a chain of flames at enemies.
Hypno Wave (1 MP): Renders all enemies unconscious.
*Fire (2 MP): Fire damage/1 enemy
Napalm (1 MP): Attacks surrounding enemies with napalm bomb.
*Protect (6 MP): Ups ally's physical defense.
*Fire2 (8 MP): Fire damage/all enemies
Mega Bomb (15 MP): Strong blast causes major damage to surrounding enemies.
*Flare (20 MP): Strongest fire magic attack.

Robo

Rocket Punch (1 MP): Punch enemy.
Cure Beam (2 MP): Partially restore ally’s HP.
Laser Spin (3 MP): Laser Spin/All enemies.
Robo Tackle (4 MP): Tackle enemy.
Heal Beam (3 MP): Partially restore all ally’s HP.
Uzzi Punch (12 MP): Hit enemy w/Multi Punch.
Area Bomb (14 MP): Damage enemy with Melt Beam.
Shock (17 MP): Damage all enemies w/Max Shock.

Frog

Slurp (1 MP): Partially restore ally’s HP.
Slurp Cut (2 MP): Snag and slash enemy.
*Water (2 MP): Damage enemy w/Water
*Heal (2 MP): Restore ally's HP.
Leap Slash (4 MP): Leap-slash an enemy.
*Water2 (8 MP): Damage all enemies w/Water.
*Cure2 (5 MP): Completely restore ally's HP.
Frog Squash (15 MP): Low HP=greater damage.

Ayla

Kiss (1 MP): Partially restore ally’s HP and status.
Rollo Kick (2 MP): Rollokick an enemy.
Cat Attack (3 MP): A savage cat attack.
Rock Throw (4 MP): Stone an enemy.
Charm (4 MP): Steal from enemy.
Tail Spin (10 MP): Damage enemies w/Tail Spin.
Dino Tail (15 MP): Low HP=greater damage.
Triple Kick (20 MP): Damage enemy w/Triple Kick.

Magus

*Lightning2 (8 MP): Damage enemies w/Lightning.
*Ice2 (8 MP): Damage enemies w/Ice.
*Fire2 (8 MP): Damage enemies w/Fire.
*Dark Bomb (8 MP): Damage enemies w/Dark Bomb.
*Magic Wall (8 MP): Ups ally's Mag. Def.
*Dark Mist (10 MP): Damage enemies w/Dark Mist.
*Black Hole (15 MP): Power of Life/Death/all enemies.
*Dark Matter (20 MP): Black Magic Damage/all enemies.
