The Backstreet Boys were just 5 regular guys living normal, average lives before they became world-wide pop stars. They all had international sensation written all over them. Even to this day, they all say that fate brought them together. But have you ever wondered how they all came together? Well, read on to find out...
In Orlando, young Alex McLean, better known now as "A.J.", took vocal lessons. He worked with his vocal coach, who just happened to be the same vocal coach as the talented Howie Dorough. Their coach thought that since the two boys were about the same age, liked the same music, and had similar sounds, why not introduce them? So he did, and both boys instantly clicked. They often ran into each other at auditions and try-outs, and quickly became best friends. As they went to more and more auditions, they started to see a a young boy at most of the ones they were at too. Who else would that young boy be other than Nick Carter. Though he was slightly younger than the two, he began hanging out with them and attending the same try-outs as them. The 3 became very good friends and when together, harmonized a lot of the songs that were big hits at the time. They decided that they sounded pretty good and formed a trio. They got signed to a record deal for a local independent label. Their manager, decided that the group needed more members to make it whole. So after the death of his father, Kevin Richardson of Lexington Kentucky, moved to Florida and got a job at Disney. He didn't feel like he was doing what he really wanted to do, which was singing, so he looked around to form a band. After hearing about the singing trio, A.J., Howie, and Nick, he decided to meet them. When he did, he was very impressed with their accapella sounds and amazing dance moves. So Kevin showed them his talent and they all agreed to add him to the group. Even after adding Kevin, the manager was not happy, he wanted to add another boy to make the harmonies richer and make the group sound whole. So Kevin got the idea of asking his cousin, Brian Littrell to join. So he called him in Lexington that same day. Brian got the call during the middle of his history class on April 20, 1993. Brian believed very strongly in taking opportunites when they are given to you, so the very next day he hopped on a plane to Orlando. He showed the other boys his stuff and they loved him. So right then and there was the birth of the Backstreet Boys. At the time they had no idea that in just a few years they would be declared pop phenomenon. |
