You first started crushin' on him last season on "Real World": Hawaii, but Colin Mortensen (yep, that's his last name!) is more than a sensitive , ex-reject turned all-around-swell guy (not to mention HOTTIE!) - he's also a cast member of the forth-coming NBC sitcom "M.Y.O.B." Here are some questions that teens around the U.S. wanted to know.
Q: Is it a tough grind doing the sitcom thing? Are the hours long? Meg, Southampton
A: COLIN: Since ""MYOB"" is a single camera show we shoot five days a week, probably 12-14 hour days. Closer to 12. So you're pretty tired out after a couple months of shooting. However, it's not really like doing work because every day on the set is an opportunity to learn something new. An opportunity to act. So I love it. I would have worked twenty four hours a day. There is nothing more valuable to young actors than experience. TV is a great medium to work out the kinks you have as an actor. I wish we would have shot 100 episodes.
Q: When will ""MYOB"" air? Lily, Taos, NM
A: COLIN: It airs June 6th at 9:30pm on NBC after "Will & Grace." So everyone who is reading this better tune in and check it out. And if you happen to know anyone with a Neilsen box, tie them up and turn on ""MYOB"" every week at 9:30pm on Tuesday!
Q: Do you have a website? If you don't right now will you have one soon? Erika, Artesia, NM
A: COLIN: I don't have a web-site that is authorized by me but I have heard there are web-sites out there about me. I try to stay away from all of that stuff. The web scares me.
Q: How did your experience on the "Real World" change you?
Zoe, Pittsburgh, Pa
A: COLIN: I wish I could answer that, but it is such a complex question... an answer for that matter, that I couldn't even begin to entertain right now.
Q: Do you ever talk to the other cast members? If so who?
Jesssica, Knoxville, TN
A:COLIN: Matt and Teck
Q: How old are you?
Yvonne , Junction City, KS
A:COLIN: I'm 20.
Q: What is your role on the new sitcom "M.Y.O.B."?
Amanda, Roanoke, VA
A: COLIN: I play AJ, a clueless office assistant who wants more than anything to "help people," in life. That is his dream, to help people. And he sees the way to do that as Secondary School Administration. Aka: Being a principal. The character is overflowing with irony because he doesn't really possess the skill to do what he dreams of. He also has a bit of a crush on "Riley" who is the lead of the show.
I should point out that "A.J." also developed as "MYOB" went on. I think I started to really figure him out and the writers also really found out who they wanted him to be. Towards about the sixth show I think we really found out who "A.J." is... An idiot savant. He is so simple that at times he's brilliant. He is a really interesting character and I can't wait to continue to discover what makes him tick.
Q: Why weren't you on "Real World"/Road Rules Challenge 2000? You would have brought better ratings to the show and it would have been more fun to watch!
Samantha, Raleigh, NC
A: COLIN: I really felt that with what I want to do it was time to move on from that type of programming. They provided a wonderful opportunity for me in the "Real World" that worked out for both of us. It was just time to think about my career. I need to worry about what the best choices are for me as a person and as an actor at this point in my life. And I don't think doing the challenge would have been good for either.
Q: I've been interested in being on The "Real World" in an upcoming season. I've always loved the show, and think it would be a great opportunity. Do you have any advice as to how to go about having a better chance at getting picked for the show?
Mel, Northumberland, pa
A: COLIN: My advice is to not apply. It can be the best or the worst thing you ever do. And in some cases both. Your just making yourself susceptible to too many things out of your control. Although I know you won't listen because I wouldn't have.
