Pokemon Walkthrough
Introduction
The game starts with the naming of characters and a basic introduction to the
world of Pokemon. (Just a reminder, you will be referred to as Ash, and your
rival will be called Gary.)
Pallet Town
You start in the second floor of your house, and the first thing that you can do
is turn on your computer and retrieve a potion. (Working the computer is not
that hard, but just in case, here it is. Activate the computer with the "A"
button, choose Ash's PC, go to withdraw item, and pick the potion. You can also
store items in your computer, which I suggest, because some you will not recieve
certain items if your inventory is full. I suggest that you store your TMs in
your computer, because you do not want to use them right off the bat and they
take up space.) Go downstairs, talk to your mom, and head outside. I suggest
that you talk to everybody in all towns and outside areas, because they have
valuable information, and can sometimes give you items. You will ultimately want
to go to Professor Oak's Lab. You will find out that he is not there. After you
go to the lab, try to leave town via the north road. As you approach the tall
grass, you will be confronted by Professor Oak, and he will tell you that before
you go you will need a Pokemon of your own. You end up in the lab, and Professor
Oak will give you, and Gary, the chance to pick a Pokemon, either Charmander,
Bulbasaur, or Squirtle. The Poke Balls, when picked, will tell you which one is
inside. They claim that the grass Bulbasuar is the easiest one to start off as,
but I love fire creatures, so I chose Charmander. After you pick a Pokemon, Gary
will choose which ever one yours is weak against, in my case squirtle. He will
then challenge you to a fight. My friend tried this battle as both Squirtle and
Bulbasaur, and lost both times. I, however, beat Gary with my Charmander (fire
kicks butt). I am sure that luck had to do with it, but I still think that fire
is the best, and I bet my friend will agree. If you beat Gary, which I suggest
saving before you try in order to do so, you will be given 175 dollars. If you
haven't talked to everybody yet do so now. Note... A long time from now you will
have a Super Rod. Come back to Pallet Town and fish here to catch a Poliwag.
Route 1
Not much to do here. Be sure to talk to the guy, and get the potion. Oh yeah,
wild Pokemon only appear in high grass. You can find wild Rattatas and Pidgeys
here.
Viridian City
You are going to want to talk to everybody, but before you do that go to the
Pokemart. Here you will be given a parcel, and told that you have to bring this
to Proffesor Oak. Once you have this, go back to Pallet Town. In the lab, and
after you give the parcel to Professor Oak, you will be given the Pokedex. It is
not very useful, but can be. Once you reach Viridian City, again the road north
is unblocked, and you can search the northern funny looking tree for a potion. I
suggest that you buy some Poke Balls, and capture one Rattata and one Pidgey. If
you head west from Viridian City there is a patch of grass where you can find a
male and female Nidoran, and a Spearow. (note... if you head west more you will
encounter a battle with Gary. Dont do this until you have a decent leveled
Rattata, Pidgey, and Main Pokemon.) When all is said and done, head north.
Route 2/Viridian Forest
Route 2 offers little, in terms of items, but it does have many different places
to go as soon as you have the ability to cut those funny looking trees. In the
forest you can find an Antidote, Poke Ball, and a Potion. In the forest you will
encounter 3 Pokemon trainers, none of which are hard, and you will recieve, 60,
90, and 70 bucks. The last trainer, if you talk to him again, he will mention
looking for lost items. Right next to him is a hidden potion. In the forest you
will want to fight, and capture, a Weedle, Caterpie, and Pikachu. You will also
fight Metapods, and Kakunas, they both are upgraded Weedles or Caterpies, and
are not worth the trouble. At level 7 Weedles and Caterpies upgrade, and keep
all of their abilities, and count as both Weedles/Kakunas or
Caterpies/Metapods.)
Pewter City
This is a basic town, but hosts your first boss. I will let you figure out how
to fight him, but I suggest that you are on a decent level. In the gym you will
recieve 220 dollars from Brock's servant, a BOULDERBADGE, 1386 dollars, and a
TM34 from Brock. That is the basics for Pewter City.
Route 3
There are lots of trainers here that allow you to boost up your experience and
cash flow. I also suggest that you capture a Jigglypuff, so you can update your
pokedex. In the northern part of route 3, there is a Poke Center, you can buy a
Magikarp Pokemon. I dont suggest this, because it will cost you 500 dollars, and
it does not provide any usefulness until it upgrades at level 20. You have a
chance, later on in the game, to get one for free, and that is when I suggest
you aquire it. Don't waste your money.
Mt. Moon
This is a pretty big cave. Here is a list of items to find. First floor, TM12,
110, 210, 275, 100, 165, 150, 350, Potion, Potion, Rare Candy, Escape Rope, Moon
Stone. First stairs, 330, HP Up. Second stairs, 360, TM01. Last Stairs, 480,
390, 300, your choice of two fossils. Just make sure that you talk/fight
everyone, and capture at least one Zubat, Clefairy(last stairs), Paras, and a
Geodude.
Route 4
This is a standard area, but don't forget to pick up the TM04. Make sure that
you capture the Ekans that can be found here.
Cerulean City
This is an interesting city. You have to fight your second boss, Misty, here. Be
sure to find, 80, 380, 2079, 595, TM11, and the CASCADEBADGE. There is a hidden
rock candy in someones back yard. It is easy to find, because it is the only
backyard that only has one entrance or exit. Make sure that you have high level
creatures, usually three or four leveles higher than the wild Pokemon's. Talk to
everybody.
Route 24
This is another straigh forward route. There are some people to fight and talk
to here, you should recieve 140, 210, 240, 360, a Nugget, 450, 280, and a TM45.
Be sure to find, and capture, one Abra, and one Oddish, at least. Route 25 This
route leads to Bill's place. Items to collect here are, 595, 525, 225, 255, 225,
455, 280, TM19, 210, 195, the ticked to the S.S. Anne. There are some trainer to
fight here, as if you could not tell from the money. After talking/rescuing
Bill, head back to Cerulean City. You will notice that the one building that was
blocked by police, is now open. Behind the house you will fight someone from
team rocket, and will recieve 510, and a TM28.
Journey to Vermilion City
Route five offers nothing except for the ability to capture a Mankey, which I
suggest. You will be able to go only one way, until you get water for the
guards. In the underground passage there is a hidden item, an X-Special. It is
located in the lower part of the passage, and in one of the middle two rows. In
the next area, area six, you can get 160, 400, 320, 200, 320, 320, from fighting
battles with the trainers here.
The Vermilion Area
This city offers you a fair amount. Make sure you talk to everyone, and recieve
the Old Rod, and the Bike Voucher. You might have to make room in your
inventory, by either using the TMs or storing them in your PC. Once you recieve
the Old Rod, you can fish and capture the Magikarp, and you will have saved 500
bucks. In another building, you can trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd/Dux. I
suggest that you capture a second Spearow, and trade that one away. East of the
town is a cave. Here is a good place to gain levels, and capture a Diglett.
Further East is an area filled with high grass and pathways. You should catch a
Drowzee here, and search the tree for an Escape Rope, the tree is obvious.
Trainers here will give you, 285, 315, 1260, 270, 1260, 1260, 1050, 900, 1260,
dollars. The building to the East will lead to a path that is blocked by a
sleeping Pokemon. One of the trees there you can search to find a Hyper Potion.
This is as far as you can go east, for the time being. The Diglett cave leads
you back to Viridian Forest, although you can't go there until you get the HM
for Cut. But, you can trade an Abra for a Mr. Mime. (note... traded creatures
gain boosted experience. I suggest that you and a friend trade Pokemon and then
trade them back. You will have your same Pokemon, but they will all get boosted
experience points.
S.S. Anne
This is a haven for Trainers. Items/money to find, Great Ball, 1300, HM01, 1190,
270, Rare Candy, 595, 1610, Max Ether, 510, 548, 270, 315, TM08, 1330, 1260, Max
Potion, 510, 630, 510, Ether, 540, TM44, 595, 600. Once you get the HM01 from
the captain, you should not leave until you get everything else. The HM01 is the
key item you need to get from the S.S. Anne, so once you get that, and leave the
ship, it sails off. Now that you have the cut ability, which you can as many
times as you want, a lot of new doors open up for you. The first thing you
should do is challenge the third boss. Lt. Surge, who lives in Vermilion City,
is hidden behind one of the trees that you need to cut down. I suggest that you
give the cut ability to your main pokemon, because the creature with the ability
has to be in your party to use it, and you need to access it through the Pokemon
option after pressing the start button. Cut is an ability that cuts down trees
in the overworld, but also is an attack in battle, and a strong one at that. I
suggest that you replace the attack your Pokemon started the game with with Cut,
because it will do more damage. Lt. Surge is not that hard, just make sure that
your creatures are a couple levels higher than the creatures in the overworld.
In the gym you will recieve, 630, 500, 1610, THUNDERBADGE, 2376, and the TM24.
Cut
I suggest that you go to the beginning of the game, via Diglett's Cave, and
start there. All the way back in Viridian, you can cut down a tree, and talk to
some guy about the sleeping Pokemon. He will give you a TM42. In Route 2 there
are a few things that you can do. You can find a Moon Stone a HP Up, and you can
recieve the HM05 if you talk to Proffesor Oak's Aide, in the large building.
Lastly, go back to Pewter City, and chopthe tree left of the museum. This will
take you to a part of the museum that you were not able to reach before. Someone
here will give you the Old Amber, and tells you to take it back to the Pokemon
Lab to have it examined. All of these are reached by cutting down trees. These
were all of the areas that could not be reached before. Anything new that can be
reached by using cut will be posted in the appropriate areas.
On to Lavender Town
This next area is kind of basic. There are lots of trainers, and items, between
you and lavender town. In Route 9 be sure to pick up the 360, 700, TM30, 200,
380, 700, 400, 735, 420 and 190. In route 10 be sure to catch a Voltorb, along
with finding the 400. There are a lot of things to do inside the rock tunnel.
Make sure you capture an Onix and a Machop. You also want to find the 1150 in
the first area, the 1250, 440, 1100, 875 and 700 in the second area, the 665,
700 and 735 in the third area, the 420, 735 and 1000 in the fourth area, and the
440, 380 and 400 in the last area. Be sure that you are around level 22 before
going in. As soon as you are out of the tunnel, you will be in the southern part
of Route 10. Be sure to pick up the 420, 735, 665, 1000 and the Max Ether hidden
in the tree. There you did it, and it wasn't that bad. You are now just north of
Lavender town.
Lavender Town
There is nothing to find in this town, except for the Pokemon tower and the
knowledge of the townspeople. Be sure to talk to everyone, and find out as much
as you can about the Silph Scope. Don't worry, you should not be inside the
tower yet. If you head south, which you will not get far doing, you can fight
some trainers. They have all water Pokemon, and will give you 770, 735, 945 and
860, I think. I was sleepy when I did this, so the numbers might not be correct.
You ultimately want to head west of Lavender Town, and leave the funky music
behind.
The Journey to Celadon City
Before I say anything else, I want to say this. I have been writing this sight
for a couple of weeks now. I work on my computer while Pokemon is turned on, and
the bicycle music is getting very old. Has anyone else noticed this? Anyway,
Route 8 offers a few things. You should capture a wild Growlithe, and fight the
trainers to get the 330, 1680, 550, 285, 360, 650, 345, 1540 and 500. By the
time you do this, you should see another underground passage, like the one going
from Cerulean City to Vermilion City. This one leads to Celadon, and has two
items hidden in it. I got an Elixer and a Nugget. When you exit the tunnel you
will be right next to Celadon City. Now comes the fun part. Oh yeah, and just a
reminder, you should have your Pokemon between level 22-24 with your main
Pokemon on a higher level to kill big guys.
Celadon City
This city requires some time. The first thing I would do is walk right through
the town and exit through the west exit. Then you should cut the tree and
capture a Doduo, and Ratticate if you wish. Then I would head east some more,
one screen, and talk to the girld to get the HM02, "FLY". Then go back to the
town, because the other way is blocked by that sleeping Pokemon. You should talk
to everyone in the city, and here is a list of things to do. Go in the back door
of the mansion to get the Eevee. This guy is cool, because using either the
fire, water, or thunder stones you can upgrade him three different ways. Next I
would fight Erika. She uses grass pokemon, so be sure to bring a hight level
fire pokemon, for me Charizard level 60. In the gym you should get 1680, 345,
1470, 480, 840, 345, 1820, 2871(Erika), RAINBOWBADGE(Erika) and a TM21(Erika).
The next stop should be the castle they call a store. This place is huge. Each
floor specializes in certain types of items, and each floor has great things to
by. By the time you leave this store you will want to spend some time gaining
money, because there are tons of good things to buy. Just a reminder Red
Versioners, trade with someone to get the Meowth, because they earn money. On
the third floor someone will give you a TM18. On the roof of the store you can
get three TMs. There is a girl that is thirsty, and you can get a TM13, TM48,
and TM49 if you give her either Fresh Water, Sodapop, or Lemonade respectively.
That is it for the store, except for any spending that you want to do. The next
area I went to was the bar. I am not sure if it is a bar or cafe or what, but
someone lost all of their money. When you talk to this man, he will give you his
Coin Case. This will allow for you to use the slot machines in the Rocket
Casino. Coincidentally enough, that is where I went next. When you go into the
Casino, and talk to everyone and you will recieve a total of 50 coins. Coins are
what you gamble with. I hope that you like to earn money, or are extremely
lucky, because things are expensive. In the back of this Casino is a guy who you
are going to want to talk to/fight. You get 600 for defeating this guy, and he
gives you access to the poster. Search the poster, and a hidden set of stairs
will be revealed. This is the Rocket's Base. Note... After you get the HM03, for
"Surf", you can cross the water and talk to the old man in the middle of town.
He will give you a TM41 for your efforts. !!!This is very important!!! Do not
for any reason give the evolution stones to your Pokemon until they have all of
the abilities that they are going to learn. Once a Pokemon has been upgraded
with a stone, it will never gain another ability.
Team Rocket HQ
If you have been to my friend's site, you might see some humor in the title of
this part. This basement hideout is a joke. I am not going to tell you how to
find all the items, because it is not hard, but I will list them for you. The
first floor is divided up into three parts, and all of them are seperated from
each other. In one area you can find 630, 630, and an Escape Rope. In the next
you can find 600, 570, and a Hyper Potion. And in the last you can get 660. In
floor two you can find 510, a Nugget, a Moon Stone, a TM07, and a Super Potion.
In the third floor you can find a TM10, a Rare Candy, 630, and 600. The fourth
floor, and last, has a HP UP, a TM02, 630, a Lift Key, in one section. The other
section has 690, an Iron, 690, 2871(Giovanni) and a Silph Scope(Giovanni). This
brings an end to the wonders of Celadon City, and brings us back to Lavender
Town.
Pokemon Tower
If you hadn't noticed before you needed the Silph Scope to get through the
tower, and that is why I am talking about this after Celadon City. This tower is
pretty basic, and there isn't much to explain, so I will just list items to find
again. 1st floor does not have anything. The second floor offers you gary, the
master of repetitive insults. Defeat him, which shouldn't be too hard if you
have a couple high level Pokemon, and smell him later. You get 1625 for
defeating him. Floor three contains 660, 690, 720, an Escape Rope, and the first
time that I saw the unidentified ghost Pokemon. The forth floor has 690, 660,
720, an Elixer, an Awakening, and a HP UP. The fifth floor has a Nugget, 660,
690, 720, and 660. The sixth floor ahs 660, 720, 720, a Rock Candy, and an X
Accuracy. The seventh, and final floor, only has some pathetic Rocket trainers.
Defeat these guys and get 750, 780, 670, and then talk to Mr. Fuji. He will take
you back to his house and give you the Poke Flute. This is opens up yet another
path for you. I suggest, however, that before you leave the tower you collect a
Gastly and a Cubone. You can now open up the two paths that are blocked by the
sleeping Pokemon, and you can buy Fresh Water, from the roof of the store in
Celadon City, and give it to on of the guards surrounding Saffron City.
Saffron City
There are a lot of things to do in this town. First off, I would go to the south
eastern area, and go into Mr. Psychics house. He will a TM29. I would talk to
what people you can, then go to the fighting dojo. This is a pathetic excuse for
a gym. You don't get a badge for winning, but you do get your choice of a
Hitmonlee or a Hitmonchan. Next comes the fun part. You now want to head towards
the Silph building. This place is huge. Take Pokemon HQ, double it, and you will
get this building. I am not going to talk about this place, but I will list the
items. Note the fact that you need the Card Key to open some areas. 1st floor
does not have anything. The 2nd floor has 750, 870, 1400, 1300, and a TM36. The
3rd floor has 340, a Hyper Potion, 1450, Gary, 2600(Gary), and a
Lapras(Pokemon). The 4th floor has 840, 870, an Escape Rope, A Full Heal, a Max
Revive, and 1650. The 5th floor has 1015, 1300, 990, 990, a Card Key, a TM09,
and a Protein. The 6th floor has 1250, 870, 840, HP UP, and an X Accuracy. The
7th floor has 870, TM03, 870, 780, a Calcium, and 1450. The 8th floor has 780,
840, and 1450. The 9th floor has 840, 840, and 1400. The 10th floor has 1450,
990, a Carbos, a Rare Candy, and a TM26. The 11th, and final, floor has 750,
960, 4059(Giovanni), and a Master Ball. Once you defeat Giovanni, every team
rocket member leaves Saffron City. This opens up a couple houses. You will want
to go back to Celadon and buy a Poke Doll. Is your inventory getting full yet?
In one of the newly opened up house
