Usagi/Serena and Mamoru/Darien’s relationship is different depending on wether or not it is manga or anime. Here is the story, and the differences.

Serena meets Darien on the way home from school one day when she made a particularly bad grade on a test. Screaming “How Can I show her this thing!” she throws the wadded up test paper behind her, hitting her true love in the head. Darien looks at the test and then teases Serena about the score. She then takes back the paper and continues home. In the manga, things start to heat up between the two rather quickly, they both feel something when around each other. In the anime however, they quarrel for over 40 episodes! In the anime, Darien even went OUT with REI!!!!!! Is that wrong or what!? Of course, once he regained his memory and remembered how much he used to love Serena, he gets back in shape and goes out with her.

Then we meet perhaps one of the biggest obstacles ever for the two to face, a little pink-haired girl named Chibi-Usa/Rene. Lets get one thing straight, Rene doesn’t like Serena, and Serena doesn’t like Rene. Darien spends lots of time with Rene, and her comes the BIG difference between their romance in manga and anime. In the anime, Darien ACTUALLY BREAKS-UP WITH SERENA!!! This NEVER EVER NOT IN A MILLION YEARS happened in the manga! Darien continues to torment Serena by telling her that he doesn’t love her and even pretending that he has a new girl! In his diffense I will say that he broke up with her because of a dream he had were she would die if he was with her, so in order to ensure her safety, he breaks up with her. Low and behold, all is not lost, for Serena being the smart one tells Darien that she’s been having these weirdo dreams about them THE MINUTE SHE WAKES UP FROM HER FIRST DREAM!!!! Eventually they decide that they want to be together, no matter the consequence *sigh* however, at the same time in the manga, they are fighting another problem, Serena’s jealousy of Rene. Rene is to Serena a Darien hog and always seems one to her, except for those moments were Rene decides to be nice to Serena and Serena does actually believe that she might be her daughter. Eventually Rene meets Helios and decideds that he is better than Darien and leaves the two love birds alone!

Serena’s jealousy of Rene is there for a long time. Once she even asked Darien “who do you love more, me, or Rene?” and of course Darien can’t answer, because a husband loves his wife as much as a father loves his daughter. When she and Rene end up in a dream world the “fake” Darien puts Rene to bed and tells her that there will be no more disturbances, but she realizes that “Darien” wouldn’t ever say something like that. So she asks him “Who do you love more, me or Rene?” and “he” says “Why, you of course!” And then she knows he is a fake because the real Darien wouldn’t ever say that, and she knows in her heart that he loves them both equally.

All in all, their love can conquer all obsticales, be it evil, dreams, or little pink-haired Darien hog.
