ETA IOTA SIGMA CHAPTER
(History)
On Saturday, November 3, 1990, Eta Iota Sigma Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered in Chevy Chase, MD. The ceremony and reception were held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in the Chevy Chase Pavilion. Many dignitaries were among the more than 125 persons in attendance. The Northeast Region Syntaktes, Shirley L. Smith presented the charter members; and the Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator, Paulette Davis presented the charter.
The chartering ceremony was unique in that the Philos were organized at the chartering. The National Philo President, Annette F. Adams presented our Philos.
The sorors received the charge from past Grand Basileus Lorraine A. Williams. Soror Williams was the only Sigma to hold the office of Grand Basileus twice and was the last Grand Basileus from the Northeast Region.
The first officers of Eta Iota Sigma Chapter were Sorors Mynora J. Bryant, Charter Basileus; Barbara Johnson-Jones, Anti-Basileus; Diana Dawkins, Anti-Grammateus; Sophia Lawson, Grammateus; Jennifer Rayford-Johnson, Tamiochus; Doris E. Ortiz, Parliamentarian; and Hervert Days, Chaplain. |
