The Good Life
I want to live everyday as if it were my last
To live in the now and give no due to the past
To live a life with Tracy my mate
To provide a good home and future for her little son Nate
Dance with Tracy outside on a warm summer day
Grow old and gray, watch grandchildren play
Swing on the front porch and watch the sun go down
Look at her beauty in that new night gown
Work the field and animals too
Hear that old rooster crow or the cows when they moo
No fears of the future, no worries, no care
Eat, drink, and be merry, How could I dare?
No struggle, anger, frustration, or strife
Joy, hope, love, and peace for my life
Sweet Little Sister
Memories of you I'll always treasure
Your kind sweet heart was of good measure
My angel, my love, came from above
You stepped into my life to share you're sweet love
Your gifts, your beauty...what were they for?
You left so suddenly, closing the door
Are you still here? I can't see
Still waiting, my sweet, for clarity
What was learned? What was shared?
Happening so fast, don't think I cared
You left us here, why did you go?
So off with your spirit, only He will know
Better off you are, you know it's true
In beyond the stars, in a sky so blue
Memories of you I still treasure
Finding sadness in some, but mostly pleasure
(for my sweet little sister Charlie)
Twelve Little Feet
In earlier days, days in the sun
Children in clover, just having fun.
Running and playing, that was the thing
Taking a chance barefoot, avoid the sting!
With cornstalks as swords, tricycles as tanks
Armies would march along the creekbanks
We came to a place where a young soldier had died
We remembered his courage, yes some even cried
The enemy had fled, as did the day
The sun smiled on us as it went on it's way.
With a loud voice she yelled, "kids let's eat"
With a double time sprint went twelve little feet.
Back to the fort went six brave troops
In hopes the commander would serve icecream scoops
A Gift From Above
When the shadow of night has blinded your vision
And the knife of sorrow makes it's incision
Beware my child, but don't be afraid
For hope's on the way to dull the blade
Your courage and strength may be running low
This gift from above will allow you to glow
Tomorrow comes awake to the sun
Yesterday's gone it's action is done
Each day is a beginning as you surely must see
Remember my friend that hope is the key
A Cure
Your secrets your whispers
Are all truly yours
Echoing silence through all the closed doors
Enter a voice from where I know not
Through chambers and halls; Oh! How it fought
Against thickness and tightness ,gloom and despair
One little glimmer, how will it fair?
It settles itself in a canyon below
This particle of light with no chance to grow
But this one seed of hope won't give up so fast
It burns in your heart crying to last
You open one door. How hard it must be?
To show yourself in, once blind, now you see!
A Good Night's Sleep
As you lay your head down to rest
I send you my love
All my best
Sweet dreams for you I hope you see
When the daylight comes you think of me
A gentle smile across my lips
A vision of you my heart skips
A gazing stare and heavy sigh
My love for you sends me on high
Til tomorrow comes your day is bright
The image of you I'll keep in my sight.
Transition
I didn't stop here to cause any pain
But this madness of the past left me insane
I fell from my stance and stumbled along
Getting there's hard it won't long
My mind is in a time not far from now
With a love we'll all share, you may ask me how
At this time it's not for me to know
But it's up ahead and we'll let it flow.
You and Everybody Else
Now every heart has a song
It may be short, it may be long
For in your heart you are free
To be the one you long to be
Knowing this you can be true
Allowing others to see the real you
When you're a slave, you can't be free
You'll lie to yourself when you say "I'm me"
So tear down the walls, break from your cage
Fighting your frustration and feeling the rage
Love yourself, don't be wrong
Cause every heart has a song.
My plea to God
Dear Lord,Oh God. We know she's the one for me.
Dear Lord,Oh God. Please help me so I can see.
This woman you gave me is a dear sweet gift.
In a time of need and a time of trouble my heart she gave a lift. I've had misgivings in the times she and I have spent. I pray to you to tug at her heart and allow me to repent. Show her the good and kindness in me. Show her how unselfish I can be. Show her what a sweet man I am. I only want to treat her like a tiny lamb. I'll love her til my death and even beyond. From sunrise to sunset, dusk til dawn.
Song of Birth
My mothers womb
in a sea of gold
Out in the world
stormy and cold
Wind in my eye
burning and dry
Listen,listen to it sing
Like chimes on the porch
wavering back and forth
with each howl.
I Know Me
Don't want to drink
Don't want to get drunk
I'm on a never ending slide
I can't get off
You can lead a horse to water
Or the pig to the trough
Just let it be, and I'll be fine
For right now, I'm drowing in wine
I'll get out just give me time
I'm a fighter and a winner
When I'm losing my mind
I'll take the hard way,
At least in this life
It's the only way I know
through trouble and strife.
Idle Conversation
My words are falling on a deaf ear.
It seems lately they're not loud enough to hear.
My heart hasn't changed, nor has my mind.
The glow that was here is a little hard to find.
Let's keep it going, don't let die.
Everyday can be special, and will be if we try.
Empty Picture Frame
If I had a dollar for everytime I said that I love you.
And if I had a dollar for everytime you said that we're through.
I would be a rich man, livin' in this rich land, but loneliness would be my middle name.
I would watch pretty girls go by, but deep inside I would cry, looking at this empty picture frame.
