ABYSSINIAN : (PONY/LIGHT HORSE)

ORIGINS: The Abyssinian is found in Ethiopia and is a pony/light horse breed. There is a great deal of variability in it coloration, size and conformation.
******if anyone has any info on this breed or pics please e-mail me with details*******

AKHAL-TEKE:(LIGHT)

ORIGINS:
A mystery. Possibly bred around 1000 B.C., near Ashkhabad, Turkey.
The Akhal-teke's natural habitat is in the oasises of Turkmenistan, north of Iran and east of the caspian sea.
CHARACTERISTICS:
The head, which is very fine, and the long neck rise almost vertically from the sloping shoulders. This is a peculiar feature to the breed. The withers are usually high, and there is a deep chest, though it is usually narrow between the legs. The thighs are long, but the hind legs tend to have sickle hocks. The croup is muscular, but the back is often too long. By western standards, the Akhal-teke has pretty crappy conformation.(But I love the breed anyway)
SPORT:
Endurance, and I MEAN endurance!!!! It is renowned for this even more for it's incredible speed. The most famous test of this was the ride from Ashkhabad to Moscow, made in 1935. The distance was 2,580 miles over desert, with almost no water. The journey was completed in 84 days, and this feat has never been beaten, All the horses returned alive and well.
HEIGHT:
Approx. 15.2 HH
COLOR:
The Akhal-teke is renowned for it's golden metallic sheen, some horses can actually look gold. They are usually grey, dun, chestnut, palomino or bay.

ALBANIAN: (LIGHT/PONY)

ORIGINS:
The ancient inhabitants of the area were Illyrians, Indo-Europeans who overran the northwest part of the Balkan peninsula around the fifth century B.C. The Serbians settled there during the seventh century A.D. and were overpowered by the Turks in 1386. During the Ottoman Empire, a great deal of Arab blood was infused into the local horses, which were likely various combinations of Tarpan, Turkmenian, and Mongolian stock.
CHARACTERISTICS:
The Albanian is a small horse belonging to the Balkan group. There are two types of native Albanian horse, which are referred to as Mountain and Myzeqea. In recent years interbreeding between the two types has made the distinction less clear. Traditionally the Myzeqea is larger standing at 13.2 hands and the Mountain type on average about 12.2 to 12.3 hands. The Albanian is known for its freedom of movement, agility in difficult terrain, disease resistance, and endurance. The Myzeqea is very good for long distance use and is exceptionally strong for its size and many have an easily ridden ambling gait.
SPORT:
The Albanian are hardy, efficient horses. They are often used as carriage horses as well as for riding and light draft.
HEIGHT:
12-14 HH
COLOR:
All colors
