| Hello to all super cyber-students...Don't give up... The end is close...In two weeks we start our series of finals... |
week 15-16-17
Exam weeks.
Be prepared to hand in your completed workbook so I can have a look at it and give you a matk on 5 for it.
Be also prepared to hand in your grammar package concerning units 1-10 because I will pick it up at the same time.
For your writing exam, you are alowed to have a monolingual dictionnary as well as your grammar package, and a few sheets tof blank paper.
Week 14: unit 10
Finally the last unit...
Too bad for the students who have not been working on a regular basis. You might find the final composition a little hard.Have a look at your course outline and see what the final objectives are. As you know by now, our English class is taught and evaluated by competence¨. This means that if you have been having fun all semester, you might not be able to pass the final exams. I am mostly worried for the writing and reading in general, and in some cases the listening. It is important that you know that the failure rate in this course is, in general, 50%, due to lack of work and interest on the part of students. So if you don't want to see me again in September, please do what you have to do, including your WB and your grammar package.
Here is the grammar you have to do in this unit:
84A; 85A; 85B; 86C; 87B.
Week 13: unit 9
I'll be looking at all WBs this week to see if everyone is working on a regular basis. So please be prepared and do all the work you have to do on time. Otherwise you will be listed on my DANGER ZONE list.
Please do:
76A; 76C; 77D; 78A; 79D...
Keep it up and you will be rewarded...The boomerang always comes back to the thrower. WBs are due for week 15th.( 25/04/99), so please be prepared.
Week 12: unit 8
Please do:
68A; 69A; 69B; 70E; 71G; 72A; 73E; 73A; 74C; 74D...
Don't worry, there is a lot of homework but some of it will be done in class this week. Keep up the good work, the end is near...
Week 11: unit 7
I would like you to do:
58B; 59B; 60B; 61A; 62B.
Don't forget to start preparing your grammar package which has to be done alone and has to be ready for your exam period in May.
Week 10: unit 6
Don't forget to prepare a new checklist, this time in the back cover of your WB, just like you did for the first part of the WB, units 1-5, but now it will be for units 6-10.
This week the grammar is quite hard for someone not used to the "if" clauses.
Make sure you understand the grammar and do the homework with your SB in front of you so you can relate to the grammar focus in the unit.
If you have special questions, bring them to class.
WB: 49B left; 49A; 49B right; 51B; 54A.
Week 9:
Composition exam, 5%.
Bring in all your books, e.g. WB, SB, dictionary, and your grammar package prepared a few weeks ago.
You are also allowed to have an outline of your main ideas.
In your WB they show you how to prepare an outline. Have a look, on page 7.In class, I'll give you the correction grid just before we start the exam.
No specific homework except you might want to read some of the texts in the SB because ther final reading will be one of these.
Week 8:
Free time.Spring break...
You just have to look in the WB unit 5 at the end.
They will explain how to write a text that has arguments and controversies.
You will have to give pros and cons in your composition next week about a topic such as abortion, the net, compulsory English in college, etc...
Week 7:
Wow, no homework...(Notice there is never an "s" on homework.)
Just three exams...15% Listening, reading and speaking...
Don't forget to bring in your WB=5%
So then if you add up everything, week 7 is worth 20%.
Tip: Remember what I said at the start of our course in January: if your homework isn't done, not only do you loose marks, but if you fail your final writing, you will not be allowed to do a remake... So don't take any chances.
Week 6: unit 5: The Cutting Edge.
WB: 40B, 41D, 42A, 43C, 44A, 45A, 46C.
Tip for this week: Do all the homework for next week's class as I am picking up your workbooks while you do the reading exam. Don't forget to correct your work with a different pen and prepare the checklist which you must put in the left hand front cover page.
If you need help with exercises you do not understand, please do not hesitate to ask in class.
You are also invited to go and see the monitor for help. He is waiting for you.
Week 5, unit 4: That's Not What I Meant.
WB: 31B1, 32A left hand side, 33A, 36E. 37B,
Tip of the week: If it takes you much too long to do your homework, talk to me about it.

3. Please self-correct all your work with a different colored pen.
4. Keep all your questions for next class.
5. Remember: No work, no marks.
Week 2, unit 1: The Calm Before the Storm.
WB 1B, 2A, 2B, 3C, 3D, 5C, 6E
Tip of the week:
Correct each number right after doing it, don't wait to be finished all the homework. Therefore you will be learning from your mistakes and building on them.
