Welcome to your English102 learning site.
This year we are working with BREAKTHROUGHS.
It's on sale at the coop.
You can pick up your weekly homework on this site as well as information on our weekly grammar focus.
Just click on the pages on the left hand side of the home page.
I have posted three important pages: homework of the week, grammar of the week, and activity of the week.
You will also find a page with links that might interest you. Included on this site are also two extra pages: one about FAQs which I would like everyone to read once, and the other one about expansion activities for students who want to go a little farther.
You can e-mail me for more information as you will find the addresse at the bottom of this site.
I can also offer tutoring if you need it. Look on my office door (F114) to see what my tutoring hours are and sign up according to your schedule.
As you know, we have an activity of the week for which you can pick up instructions here.
Feel free to work ahead.

By now you should have your student book (SB) and your workbook (WB) as well as your monolingual dictionary.

You might want to know something about your teacher.
I've been teaching at Cegep of Rimouski for 32 years.
I love teaching ESL because it's a useful school subject and because my students are so nice..

I have a Bachelor's in Sciences, a Master's in Education, and two certificates.
The first one is in Group Dynamics and the second in TESL.
I am also eventually going to do a PhD in Education as soon as I have time to prepare my topic and my thesis statement. I would like to work on the new 102 objectives that are going to be put in place in 2 years and see how they compare to the former ones in terms of student satisfaction and learning.

At Cegep this year, I am mostly teaching 102 which is equivalent to a high intermediate level. See the FAQ page for more information about the dificulties in 102.

When I was young, I did some of my schooling in French and some of it in English.

Throughout my life, I have lived in Montreal, Quebec City, in Geneva, in London, England, in Brussels, Belgium, and in Toronto, Ontario.
Finally, I ended up in a beautiful, quiet, and lovely French town: Rimouski, Quebec.

I have raised six kids. The four oldest are now in the work force. The two youngest ones are at university I know all the tricks students like to pull on teachers, so don't even try...

The 10 top rules in my class are simple:
1. Work hard and you will always be rewarded.
2. Come to class every week, even if you are sick...!
3. Do your homework on a regular basis.
4. Participate actively in class and be positive towards your learning situation.
5. Hand in all your assignments on time otherwise you will get a big fat zero..
6. Work ahead: remember that the early bird gets the worm.
7. Help me help you. If I don't know you have a problem, I can't help you.
8. Go and see the monitor, Brion, as often as possible.
9. Remember that grammar is super important.
10. Don't worry, be happy...

See you soon and have a good semester,

Your cyber-teacher Olive.
