The Handicapped Travel Club: A Profile
by Hope Sykes

Their newsletter reads like many of the beloved newspapers from SmallTown, America :

"Mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 21st through June 24th at the Wisconsin Dells!"

"Dewey & Betty were just back from a very special trip to southern Indiana where they repeated their wedding vows..."

"Letters and News From Around The Country..."

There are numerous local get-togethers and an annual rally where members can meet and share ideas. Just how caring and close is this 240 member group? When one of the group members could not attend a recent mini-rally due to illness, some members sent a floral bouquet to their absent friends.

The motto of the club proclaims "fun and fellowship" but deep down it is easy to see thriving friendships and strong moral support among its members.

And, if you've ever seen the television ads where a few dollars won't buy much any more, the advertising folks certainly can't be talking about this club. For a ten dollar initial membership fee (and five dollars thereafter), you'll receive a jam-packed issue of their quarterly newsletter. It offers personal stories and advice along with detailed travel information. If you're new to rv access-travel, you'll especially appreciate The Handicapped Travel Club Accessible Park List. These parks were personally surveyed by some of the members for accessibility needs which should meet the needs of most disabled rv travelers.

The members I contacted always seemed ready to answer any question that I had about accessible RV travel. I've included their contact information in the Resources section at the end of this issue. After talking with them, it is no wonder that their slogan is "Get Out and Live!"
