GoldenEye 007 brings the world's most famous secret agent, James Bond, to life on the Nintendo 64-- complete with license to kill. Using the full power of the Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007 puts you right into 007's tux and bow tie in a first-person action spectacular. But there's more to it than just blowing away bad guys-- you will have to accomplish a variety of espionage objectives, like planting covert modems, copying top secret documents, and diverting the destructive course of the rogue GoldenEye satellite system.

GoldenEye 007 puts would-be double "O" operatives through the paces in 20 challenging missions, each with three different difficulty levels. With each difficulty level, the intelligence of your opponents increases and the complexity and number of objectives grows. Following and expanding on the story line of the hit movie, GoldenEye 007's missions span the globe; from a secret base in arctic Russia to the a giant satellite antenna cradle suspended over the steaming jungles of Cuba.

While the actual game's budget is of course, Top Secret, Rare and Nintendo have spared no expense in creating one of the most immersive gaming experiences ever. Almost two years in the making, the game is worth the wait. To capture the atmosphere of the movie, the game's developers visited the movie sets several times during production to gather research materials. Rare's designers used photographs, movie footage and actual blueprints of the sets to create the complex level layouts. The result is one of the most realistic 3-D, first-person games ever. GoldenEye adds an unbeatable license to thrill.

While a single agent can enjoy GoldenEye 007, the excitement multiplies if you have more than one player involved. Grab a few extra N64 Controllers and hook up with some friends for some spy hunting action in GoldenEye 007's multi-player mode. Up to four agents can enter one of 11 arenas for a spy-versus-spy duel to the finish. You'll have Q's entire arsenal of weaponry at your disposal as you attempt to terminate your adversaries. With a variety of different missions available even in multi-player mode, GoldenEye 007 will challenge even espionage experts with hours of game play.

Goldeneye 007 definitely keeps up the good reputation for the the two-year old movie licenced title, Goldeneye 007. After all of the delays the game is finally here and is great! Goldeneye 007 is a great spy-style adventure game where you have to use your head instead of luck. When you first insert this cartridge you will be amazed at how this is so much like the movie. Before you start playing, James Bond is pictured in the barrel of a gun with blood just like the movie! Once that is over you will be able to select whether you would like to select a mission, play a multiplayer game, or use some of your cheat options if you have accumulated any during playing the game.

When you play this game you will realize that some of your enemies are a little stupid but some are very smart so you have to be careful about what you do. On some boards it will be smarter to use the PP7 while on other boards you should use one of your machine guns. Something that makes this game real cool is how realistic it is. If you've ever shot them in the leg you will see that they grab it and then return fire back to you just as if it was in real life. Another realistic point is if you shoot them in the head they will die in one shot instead of maybe two or three.

Goldeneye has 20 levels, but if you play it on Agent you will only be able to play up until 18 since Secret Agent and 00 Agent let you play on levels 19 and 20. Through all of these levels you get many different guns and weapons such as proximity mines, remote mines, timed mines, grenades, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, Silenced PP7, KF7 Soviet, Magnum, US AR33 Assault Rifle, RC-P90, Automatic Shotgun, Klobb, DD44, D5K Duetsche, and 9 mm ZMG. There are also many gadgets such as a watch laser, Key Analyzer, Datathief, camera, etc.

Goldeneye also has a multiplayer mode where you will be able to choose how many players are playing, what kind of scenario you would like there to be, the level you would like to play on, the game length, the weapons, characters, health, control style, and the way you would like your aim adjusted. The different scenarios that are available are Normal, You only Live Twice, The Living Daylights ( Flag Tag ), The Man with the Golden Gun, License to Kill, Team: 2 vs. 2, Team: 3 vs. 1, Team: 2 vs. 1. The different levels you can play on are the Temple, Complex, Caves, Library, Basement, and Stack ( Plus there are five more hidden levels which you can access by beating certain levels. ) The game length options include Unlimited, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, First to 5 points, First to 10 points, or First to 20 points. You can choose any selection of weapons including Rockets, Lasers, Golden Gun, Slappers Only!, Pistols, Throwing Knives, Automatics, Power Weapons, Sniper Rifles, Grenades, Remote Mines, Grenade Launchers, Timed Mines, or Proximity Mines. For chacters you can choose Bond, Natalya, Trevelyan, Xenia, Ourumov, Boris, Valentin, Mishkin, and another 25 characters which you will be able to select after you beat the game. Health is self explanatory and so is the control style. For the aim part you can choose whether you want Sight ON, Auto Aim ON, Sight OFF, Auto Aim OFF, Sight ON, Auto Aim OFF, or Sight OFF, Auto Aim ON. Overall, the Multiplayer part of Goldeneye 007 is really cool.

The graphics and sound for this game are great, I mean how can you go wrong. The theme midi is great for every single level and is exactly how it is in the movie. The gun also makes real cool sounds when you reload it and when you shoot it. Another great part of this game is the hidden cheat options that you can acquire by beating certain levels under certain times, plus how it is rumble pack compatible. It is real cool how when you shoot the gun you get a little rumble like as if you shot as real gun just not half as big. Overall, Goldeneye 007 is the best first-person shooter I have ever played and is a terrific game to buy!

Before setting off on a mission it's worth checking out and customizing the control pad. Actions such as shoot, use, select, look, crouch, sniper mode and strafe may be re-set to any buttons you wish. This may take a few false starts, but eventually you will find a set-up that feels natural.

There are two difficulty modes, which involve playing as a standard agent, or the much tougher 007. I would suggest trying out the first level as an agent to get the feel of the game. However, you should then quit the game and replay it in 007 mode or TND won't take very long to finish as agent mode is ultra easy.

The first level is a basic shooter where hordes of enemy agents must be assassinated before eventually reaching, and marking out their base satellite. As Bond closes in a potential target is automatically locked-on making shooting them really quite simple. Also, using sneak mode stops them from seeing you until very late. By then they should have been taken out using the standard issue PK7. It is equipped with a silencer and thankfully has unlimited ammo.

Once an enemy has been snuffed out their body will disintegrate leaving behind a small power-up such as a health pack, weapon upgrade or piece of armor. Health and armor are vital to survival because poor old James only has three lives and it barely takes a couple of hits for him to die.

Very early in the game Bond gets his hands on a sniper rifle. This is ideal for picking off enemies from a distance. Eventually a wide range of weapons and gadgets become available. Firearms include rifles, auto 9mm, sub-machine gun, gas bombs, grenade launcher and mines. All new Q gadgets include include explosive cuff links (now we're talking), fingerprint scanner, satellite link camera and laser designators.

As the first mission comes to an end Bond must escape from the now alerted enemies by slipping on a pair of skis. He must negotiate a slalom course while fending off a gang of baddies by kicking and punching them. It all get very 'ESPN Xtreme games', but I suppose the variation stops the gameplay from becoming boring.

Other missions allows the player to delve into the intricacies of espionage - photograph enemy documents, eliminate enemies in silence, rig targets with timed explosives, sabotage opponent's encampments to gain tactical advantage and break into a secure building, photographing secret documents before detonating a bomb to aid your escape.

Now this all sounds very exciting, BUT... and there are a couple of them... Control is very slack. This becomes annoying when enemies quickly attack from multiple directions, leaving you over-shooting a desired target. Then that old Doom problem of snagging onto the scenery raises it's ugly head all too often making stealth a nuisance rather than an assistance. Most frustrating of all was the crazy 'weapon change' system. Rather than rapidly switching guns by a quick flick of a button, you must instead hold down the triangle (or whichever button you allocate), while jointly using the directional pad to scroll through a small on-screen menu. This becomes very clumsy, especially when completely out of ammo or slap-bang in the middle of a raging gunfight. Finally there is the length of the game. With no secret areas to reveal Tomorrow Never Dies will probably be gathering dust after barely a few days play, if that.
