The History of the Colony of New Haven, CT, records two families with the surname of Baldwin among its residents of Milford, CT in 1646. Both came originally from New Haven, CT before settling in Milford. The two heads of household were John Baldwin Sr. and Richard Baldwin. Both are featured in The Baldwin Family Book. Listed are descendants that married into the Woodruffs of Elizabethtown and Westfield, NJ

Father: Sylvester Baldwin, b. 1500? at England, d. 1638

* a son of Sylvester Baldwin who died on the ship "Martin" in 1638 (Atwater) ; Baldwin Genealogy by Charles Candee Baldwin, p 300 believes John Baldwin Sr. was Sylvester's brother and that Mary Bruen was the sister, not the daughter of Obadiah Bruen
* "John Baldwin came to CT with the other Milford Baldwins, with the New Haven Company. His relationship to the other Baldwins cannot be determined with certainty..... He is more likely, I think, to have been a cousin of Sylvester, or not unlikely, a nephew." Charles Candee Baldwin, p 20

* "Nicholas Camp, immigrant ancestor, was born in England and came from Nazeing, county Essex to this country in 1638. He was at Watertown, Massachusetts for a time, then at Wethersfield, Connecticut, and in 1639 appears at Guilford, Connecticut. As early as 1646 he had a house, lot of 6 acres, one right and two parcels, in Milford, Connecticut. His name is on the list of free planters of Milford dated November 20, 1639. He joined the Milford Church November 2, 1643. He was taxed on one hundred and ninety-nine pounds of property at Milford in 1686. He died there in 1706."
