Ezekiel Woodruff Jr. was captain of Essex Co., NJ milita when promoted to major in 1776. He gave the information that averted the catastrophe, when the British in 1779 planned to suprise Elizabethtown, and capture Washingtons advance guard. He died in 1801, at the age of fifty-seven
