From "Old Records of Estates and Administrations, Benton (Calhoun) Co., AL
Volume I, excerpt from the will of Moses Woodruff, as follows: "I, Moses Woodruff of the State of Alabama and county of Benton, being of sound mind and memory, and also in good health, but feeling that according to the course of nature, time ere long must cease and in order that my earthly affairs be settled to my wish I do hereby ordain and declare this to be my Will in order and form as follows (Viz) In the name of God Amen. In the first place after my death I wish my body to be decently interred and my soul to God who gave it. In the second place I will that all my just debts should be paid. Third I will and bequeath all of my property both real and personal to my lawful and beloved wife, Winny Woodruff, during the term of her natural life at which time I desire the whole to be sold and to be divided as follows. 1st One half to be given to Thomas Jefferson Hembree for and in consideration of favours bestowed and friendships rendered to me by him. 2nd I do give to Polly Ann Woodruff, infant daughter of Isaac Woodruff of Spartanburgh District, South Carolina, one hundred dollars, also to James Crook, son of John M. Crook, one hundred dollars for favours received from his father And the remains of my estate whatever it may be after the payment of the above legacies I do will to my sister, Phoebe Castleberry.
