* information from files of descendant, W Lindsey
* According to D Gaines, Dennis Lindsey moved to Franklin Co., AL, with others from Spartanburg Co., SC, and got a land grant there in 1818. Gaines says that Dennis Lindsey m. Anna, daughter of Joseph Woodruff and Anna Lindsey, and the family remained in Spartanburg Co. until after Anna Lindsey Woodruff's death. Anna Woodruff Lindsey died in Franklin Co., AL, in the 1840s, and Dennis died in the 1850s, according to Gaines, also in Franklin Co.
* Note that 1793 is the year of birth implied by the 1850 census, cited below.
* On 22 March 1802, the Spartanburg Co. Commissioners of the Poor bound Mary's son by Dennis Lindsey, also named Dennis, to her husband William Lindsey Allen until he was of age (see SC MAG ANCESTRAL RESEARCH 9 [1981], 208).
* On 9-10 Feb. 1826, Dennis Lindsey bought from his mother-in-law Anna Lindsey's estate a slave named Nancy.
*On 22 Feb. 1827, Dennis Lindsey sold to Benjamin L. Goodman of Spbg. Co. (the deedsays only that DL was of "SC") for $400 100 acres on Ferguson's Creek in Spbg. Co. The land was bordered on the sw by William Rhodes and on the se by Nathaniel Wofford. Wit. were Wm. Otts and Thomas Bragg. Dennis Lindsey signed. Otts gave oath on 22 Feb. 1827 to Philip Brewton, and the deed was recorded on 26 Feb. 1827. Anna Lindsey renounced dower on 22 Feb. 1827 to Robert Lindsey (Spbg. DB T, p. 342). Note that this land was evidently being sold as the family prepared to move to AL after the death of Anna Lindsey Woodruff.
* According to BTaylor (see below), DL is on the 1840 census in Franklin Co., AL (house 252), with a male 10-15, a male 20-30, a male 40-50, a female under 5, and a female 30-40.
* The July 1995 letter of DGaines cited in file of Dennis Lindsey who married Anna Woodruff has FGS charts for Dennis Lindsey's children Miles R., Robert, and Malissa, as well as an FGS chart for the family of DL, showing another child, Amanda. Unless otherwise noted, all information I have recorded about these children and their families is from this source.

* D Gaines has sent WLindsey an undated affidavit from Riley Sparks, cousin of Miles R. Lindsey, which is evidently from the claims file of Miles R. Lindsey for reimbursement from the federal government after the Civil War, per the claims filed with the Southern Claims Commission. This states that Riley Sparks lived near Miles R. Lindsey during the War, and that Miles R. Lindsey had consistently supported the Union.
* D Gaines' letter accompanying this tells me that Miles Lindsey is a son of Dennis and Anna Woodruff Lindsey, and that Riley Sparks is a son of Eunice Woodruff, sister of Anna.
