Del Jackson's 20 July 1984 letter cited in file of Nathaniel Woodruff places Thomas Woodruff 's birth between 1754-64, and places his birth after brother Joseph. * Thomas Woodruff is on the 1782 tax list in Surry Co., NC, south of the Yadkin, with 300 acres. * Del Jackson's 20 July 1984 letter cited in file of Nathaniel Woodruff says that Thomas Woodruff is on a Feb. 1786 NC census in Capt. Willis' dist., Surry Co., with 1 white male 21-60, 4 white males under 21 or over 60, and 3 white females. * Phifer says that Thomas Woodruff was baptized at Bethel Baptist church in Woodruff, SC, on 16 Sept. 1787, married Eunice, and died in 1828 in Bibb Co., AL. * On 1790 census, Spbg. Co., SC, with 2 males 16+, 3 other males, and 4 females. * In a 1 Jan. 1991 letter to D Turner, Dorothy Phifer saysthat Thomas Woodruff drew up a will in Spartanburg Co., SC, on 29 Dec. 1825, as the family prepared to move to AL, and the will was probated in Bibb Co., AL, June 1828 by Nathaniel Woodruff, who was named exr. of the will on 5 Oct. 1829. Nathaniel's will was probated in Bibb Co. on 8 Jan. 1835. * Bibb Co. Orphans Ct. Bk. A, p. 240, states that Nathaniel proved the will at court in June 1828, with witnesses residing in another state. Commission to Philip Bruton, Nathaniel Woodruff, or James Bruton, or any of them residing in Spartanburg Co., SC, to take the depositions of Samuel Woodruff, Sr., Isaac Woodruff, and Rebecca Woodruff (Gandrud, vol. 31, pp. 13-14). * Final settlement was at Feb. term 1831 (though Gandrud transcribes the name here as Nathaniel). Widow Eunice, with heirs Josiah, Jemima Lindsey, Joseph, Samuel, William Barnet and wife Anna, and Nathaniel. * Unless otherwise noted, all information about the children of Thomas Woodruff is from Phifer, p. 5. * In Jan. 2000, J H. Woodruff, Jr. sent me a FGS sheet for the family of Nathaniel Woodruff, Sr. This has a transcript of the will of TW. This mentions wife Eunice and living children Jemia, Josiah, Nathaniel, Joseph, Samuel, and Anna (Barnett). The will is wit. by Samuel Woodruff, Sr., Isaac T. Woodruff, and Rebecca Woodruff. * The FGS also has a transcript of a 5 Oct. 1829 bond in Bibb Co., AL, in which Nathaniel and Samuel Woodruff and Wm. Mary Woodruff, is an 18 May 1826 note stating, "Honord Madam, these lines is to inform you that there is no doubt of Thomas Lindsey being dead and there is but one living child of the heirs of John Lindsey decd and Jemimah Lindsey thinks herself intitle to his part of money, etc." It would appear that the note was addressed to Mary Woodruff Allen, who outlived her husband. Is the Thomas Lindsey who had died a child of Jemima Woodruff and John Lindsey?
